Happy over Here!

Screen Shot 2016-06-28 at 7.17.07 AM

Lady G is downright ecstatic because Queen Bee over at I Sing The Body Electric hit me with a happy tag!  If you are not familiar with Ms. Queen Bee, you might want to step over to her blog.  I think you’ll enjoy this little badass jewel from the UK.

Thanks for the tag my Queenie Bee!

In order to fulfill my ‘Happy tag’ requirements, I am going to list five things that make me happy.  After that, I will share five songs and bloggers that make me happy. Don’t worry bloggers, you don’t have to do anything 😉

And so…

Here goes:

Five things that make me happy:

Sitcoms from the 1960’s and 70’s:

When I was a little tyke, I absolutely loved ‘Geraldine Jones’ from ‘The Flip Wilson Show.’ It’s pretty safe to say that my spicy side comes, in part, from watching Ms. Geraldine.  Now, if you are unfamiliar with the show, the character, ‘Geraldine,’ is really Flip Wilson dressed in drag.  Who knew?

Anyway, Geraldine was flirty, feisty and she pulled no punches. From time to time, she would refer to her boyfriend, ‘Killer.’

Although ‘Killer’ was never seen, he maintained a very ‘real’ presence on the show.  In fact, there was a scene where a character asked, “Who is Killer?” To which Geraldine responded, “The question is not ‘Who is Killer?’  The question is ‘Where is Killer?’

And with that, Geraldine shut it down! Clearly, Killer didn’t play!

Watch Ms. Jones in action (the video is old and of poor quality but you WILL get the ‘picture.’)

Ouch!!!!  You, sir, have been checked!

Some of my other favorite sitcoms include Sanford and Son, Bewitched and The Odd Couple, I also like The New Odd Couple-with Ron Glass and Demond Wilson-albeit from the ’80’s.

I could go on naming more sitcoms but we ain’t got that kind of time 😉

Other things that make me happy include:

Sky gazing

You can read more about that here

Taking pictures

Quite a few of the pictures on this blog were taken with my iPhone. It should come as no surprise that I am rarely pictured in family photos because I am always the photographer.

Instruments of time, space, weather, travel

I recently admitted to another blogger, M.J. Moye, that I am a bonafide geek. I also told him that one day I would come out of the closet as such.

That said, YAASSSS!!!  Today is the day!  Here I am, I am out!  Lady G is a geek!  I am that kid that made an aneroid barometer for an elementary school project.  Oh stop! It was easy, all I needed was a glass bottle, a balloon and….hell you can go google the rest!

By the way, at some point, my equally geeky cousin Ron and I are going to Greenwich, England.  If you possess any amount of geekiness you will understand why.

Yeah Ron, you have been outted!

I might do a post about all of this– but not today 😉

Food and Cocktails

Give me some good food, some good drink and some good company and your girl is set!

Five songs that make me Happy (They are in no particular order)

Ok, so let me get this straight, as a huge lover of music of all types, these are five songs that make me happy but there are 10 zillion more that make me just as happy as the five listed below–I’m just sayin.

  1.  ‘Beginnings’ by Chicago
  2.  ‘I Wanna be Where You Are’ by Michael Jackson –Smile T. Wayne 🙂
  3.  ‘Hot Fun in the Summertime’ by Sly and the Family Stone
  4.  ‘I Need your Lovin” by Teena Marie
  5.  ‘Spirits in the Material World’ by The Police

Friends, I cannot sufficiently explain how much music means to me in this post.  Now, if you want more details, start by reading this or that.

Five Bloggers that Make me Happy

There are quite a few bloggers that make me happy but these bloggers are always on my ‘happy’ go to list:

A Joyful Process Blog- T. Wayne: Where I go to get my groove on!

The GeoGee Experience- G.:  Where I go to get my fun on!

STBB/The Time Tunnel- Ronbrownx: Where I go to get my nostalgia on!

Chevvy’s Studio- Chevvy:  Where I go to get my creative writing on!

Heroically Bad Writer -Woebegone but Hopeful:  Where I go to get my UK humor and wit on!

I opted not to do links or ping backs because I don’t want these guys to feel obligated to do anything.  If you like me, you’ll love them!  Go look ’em up!

Alas!  My time is up!

Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.

Thanks again Queen Bee!

Love me some Sanford & Son! I can remember eating orange slices and singing the theme song with my Grandpa. Thanks Girl for putting that sweet memory back into my mind today!

    Oh thanks so much Gwin.
Now I really have to make sure I don’t lose my ‘Silly’ or my ‘Happy’ as it is now an official public service (You can take the man out of the UK civil service, but you can’t…..ahh you know the rest)
Enjoyed reading the ‘Happy’ s you listed. I salute you of so many interests and accomplishments…barometer…impressed; never mind googling it; we can all google ‘it’ and still not have a clue how to do it! (looking at profile picture of myself)
Annnd big congratulations on your Happy Tag!! You deserve it (must learn more about all this interesting stuff on WordPress)
Would like to stay a bit longer, but schedules and things are demanding my presence (retirement…hah!!)

  4. This is a great post Gwin and I’m so happy to be mentioned in your tag. You always come across with so much love in your heart. I was having a bit of a down day yesterday so it was good to read this. In fact, I turned it into a discussion with my family and what is so amazing is how it’s often the simple things that make you happy. I’ll share a few thoughts on that here rather than doing a separate post.

My father and brothers would definitely break bread with you on the old sitcoms. I enjoyed them too but they were running on our channels when I was just about leaving home. I love the stand up comedy shows and last night we watched one of Trevor Noah’s shows that he did in Washington – he usually gets me cracking up so hard that I forget about my worries.

Interestingly, my 14 year old daughter told us how she loved to lie on her bed in the dark with her curtains slightly open and soak up the moonlight and the stars from what she could see and how happy that made her. So there’s some of that love of the sky.

On the Food, drink and good conversation, I’m with you completely. I spent Saturday with my best friend and you aint seen two people that both can talk so much.I think we spent about 5 hours talking, eating good Portuguese food and drinking cocktails and how we laughed! So Girlfriend, one day, one day- when you and I get together, I know that you and I will be up for that – I can picture it!

I found your music choices very interesting since they are different from your jams. Like you, I have such a love of music that it is not so easy to come up with a shortlist. But I also realised that I’m not listening to music as much as I used to. In fact your post made me realise that I’m not doing a lot of things that used to make me happy. So I’ve got work to do😀

Lady G, it goes without saying that you have been a breath of fresh air in my life and I just love shooting the breeze with you. I just agree with much of what G has said about you. You’re a kindred spirit for me.
I guess recently, blogging has been a great source of happiness since it consolidates a number of my favorite creative pastimes like writing poetry, photography and storytelling – of course it never fails to amaze me how one can resonate with a complete stranger across the world over a post. I still think that is so magic.

I also love my own brand of interior design. I’ve created special places in my house with my favorite colours, memorabilia, and other favorite things – spaces to chill and soak up the sun in the morning or have a special tea experience with friends or a secluded corner in my dining room that we use for one on one chit chats or meditation.

You know- the more I write, the more I realise so many things that I have reasons to feel happy about and considering that I wasn’t feeling so great yesterday, i have to thank you again for sparking this reflection – I’ll continue to ponder it further.

Thanks for spreading the love Lady G.💞

    1. Good Evening Chevvy!
Thank you for sharing about your happiness here.
If I have triggered anything in you that tells you to engage more in things that make you happy then I feel that my work is done.
Trevor Noah is funny as hell! I love him. He’s also a little cutie pie.
As for your weekend, I wish that my bestie lived close enough for us to have such a weekend. Portuguese food? I have never actually had it but from what I have seen, it reminds me a lot of Spanish food but with a different take; that said, I know that I would love it. Bring on the cocktails girl! Good times!
As for my music choices, Two of the ones listed would not have made “My Jams’ because I only selected songs that hit the soul or R&B charts. I guess it’s my way of trying to help us remember the soul and r&b music that people have forgotten about. Chicago and The Police will never have to worry about fading into the past.
One day, I will address ALL of my favorites from other genres. Stay tuned! That’s gonna be a lot of fun!
Very interesting that your daughter is a sky/moon gazer. That is one of those things that I have found people either love or they are indifferent towards it.
To your point about blogging, I do think that it allows us to make more of a soul to soul connection; there’s not as much ‘interference’ that would normally prevent us from ‘coming together.’
It is so funny that you mentioned your interior design because I had to read it twice. Just yesterday I was thinking about how your blog is so filled with beauty, creativity, and color. It sounds as if your blog reflects your real life environment. It sounds sooooo lovely. One of my best friends is a huge believer in feng shui and she makes sure that everything in her environment follows those tenets; even at work 🙂
You know, you hit on an important point. I think that all of us as creative types do have those down times. I know I do. It’s just good to know that you can have your space and still feel welcome to come around when you are ready.
Well let me get started on My Jams. Can you believe we are approaching 1985? LOL!
      Much love to you Chevvy!
      Gwin

      1. Hello Gwin – I always look forward to hearing from you.Yes indeed, your post did call me to order on a few things and rest assured – as I always say, if you make a difference with even just one person, you have made all the difference.
To be honest, I am in a bit of a muddle at the moment and in the end, I have to get myself out of it. But I was just reading another blog which reminded me to tick off the things I have got right to help eliminate the things that worry me and I realise how one can be too hard on oneself. So I’m thankful for so much including the great stuff I get from you.

Thank you for the compliment. Yes, I also believe in Feng Shui – not fanatically so but I am worrying about a dripping tap at the moment 😀

Yes, I love colour so it does spill into my house and garden.
Btw my favorite cocktail is “Sex on the beach” and I can be very naughty in the fuss I make in ordering it – poor waiters!. One of my family friends is from Venuzuela so when she’s around we drink Cachassa (not sure if I spelt it right) One day, one day – we’ll share the Espetada and the Caparinha (Portuguese fare)

Gotta go sweetheart, family responsibility time, catch you later 😀😀

        1. Yaaay! I am very happy that you are getting what you need from the blog world! You know I am laughing about the leaky faucet! That would drive me bestie nuts!
What I wouldn’t give to hear you order that “Sex on the Beach.”
I am going to look up all that stuff that you just named for cocktails!
I’ll talk to you later dear! Enjoy the rest of your day!

        2. ha!ha! – you make me smile for sure. Yes that leak is annoying. I thought it had stopped so we sent the plumber away – he won’t be pleased when we call him back.
Yes on the cocktails, I am naughty and adventurous. I once ordered a drink called “An attitude adjustment” Well I can assure you that I would have had an attitude adjustment if I had drank it all. It included a number of strong spirits with coke served in a big glass bowl. The friend I was with was hysterical with laughter and took photos of me being hysterical. I of course refused to take the glass bowl. They had to transfer to a glass and lose some of that liquid. – yeah that was really hilarious and I promise you that if you had been there you would have been Rolling on the floor….😀

  5. T. Wayne

Well, well, well. What do we have here? (done in the Betty Wright voice of She’s Got Papers On Me):

Thank you for shouting me out for the Happiness Tag! This is the second time I’ve been named for this. I will definitely get the post out soon! I’ve been so into this Michael Jackson series (that is almost done) that I haven’t really had time to get into that post yet. But rest assured, it will be done. And as an aside: one of your “happy” songs is going on my list! I won’t name which one!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. NOT the Betty Wright voice! LOL! Twin, you are a trip!
      You’ll love this:
When I first wrote this I listed Michael Jackson as the artist beside ” I wanna be where you are.” Well you know I had to go back and change that to the J5 because I knew my Twin would notice that 🙂
      LOL!!!
No worries about a post; I didn’t want to pester anybody with it 🙂

    1. The photos in New Orleans My Home Away From Home are great. They illustrate you possess a gift of vision for capturing the central point of a photograph (essential to all images) they also reveal you are gifted with creativity.

In short I love them they all tell a story (something great photos do) and they draw the viewer in.

You got me really intrigued with the photo at the end of the post. The one of the statue in front of the building. That’s pretty powerful sweetie and has something going on it that stops the viewer as well as makes them want to share it. How did you pull that white silhouette illusion off? That and the elongated shadow on the building is awesome. Do tell.

Keep shooting photos – you’ve got the gift. Shoot everything food, flowers, street people, cityscapes, babies, inanimate objects – just take all the photos you can. You’ll be surprised where it will take you and your photos.

You just make sure I get invited to the Gallery showing. Ok?.

      1. Thanks for checking those out G.
You know, I just point the phone at stuff that strikes me and take the picture. When I saw that statue of Jesus giving that shadow onto the church I could not pass that by. Just pointed and clicked! It begged me to! LOL

  6. I did the Art Institue of Photography stint after Jr College. I studied the old masters heavily (Ansel Adams, Ray Man, Andy Warhol, Gordon Parks) and one thing I learned from them all is high end equipment can never replace vision and timing when it comes to capturing a moment. And you’re shooting with an iPhpne which can hold it’s own against a lot of the big DSLR heavies.

So I say to you fire away with your iPhone – Andy Warhol shot 90% of his photos turned high end art with a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera. – An instant camera.

So you keep capturing those images – and sharing them.

Oh no you didn’t say you’re gearing up for the TZ marathon. I tell you what – you pop the virtual popcorn – I’ll fire up the virtual grill and haul in something to wash all this marathon eating down with and when it’s over we can blog about some real old school TV. I love every episode of TZ!

I’m on my way to check out more of your pics you mentioned above.

    1. Now that I think about it, the food shots aren’t really the best examples; food was good though.
I have a New Orleans post that is much better. I’ll add the link!

  7. Thanks for showing The GeoGee Experience some love here Lady G. To be on your list of preferred bloggers is huge to me – I mean that.

I’m glad you were bestowed a Happy Tag because it initiated this wonderful post from you. I have to tell you are a very interesting and accomplished lady. Quite the Rennaissance Lady I’d say.

Discovering you’re a photographer blew me away. That’s a craft I’m passionate about ( I’ve been in all my life). So why don’t we see more of your work? No let me come again – show us more of your work I for one would love to see it.

Your penchant for old school sitcoms gets a huge thumbs up from me. I’m a Sanford and Son , and Good Times junkie – wash – rinse- repeat. An oh yeah The Twilight Zone.

I have to thank you for sharing so much of your interesting self with your readers – that’s huge and something all bloggers should do (especially me LOL)..

This was a beautiful post – and again thanks for the shout out love!

    1. Thank you G.

I love taking shots with my iPhone. But I feel like I need to invest in a professional camera and take a few courses. I think I have something of an eye; at least good enough for my own delight and to share with friends like you. I took photography in high school–you know the whole dark room kinda class with the developing chemicals and all that. But that poor teacher bored the shit out of me so I really didn’t get much out of it.
      Now for the fun stuff:
Baby please believe that your girl is already gearing up for the ‘Twilight Zone’ marathon that Syfy does every July 4th. I am all about it. One of my faves is “Mr. Garrity and the Graves.” You know, the one where the ‘charlatan’ went to Happiness, AZ and promised to raise the dead. Oh the twists and turns that one takes! I also love ‘Jess Belle’ and “A Stop at Willoughby.’ Frankly I got so many TZ favorite I can’t list them all.
Now, if you want to see my food and my photos, you can click on the words ‘good food’ in the post; there you’ll find a bunch of pictures of different foods that I cooked last year. Enjoy!

And you better know that The GeoGee Experience is always on my list of favorite blogs!
