So the thing I LOVE about being home alone is the fact that I can cook whatever the hell I want to!
Seriously, I don’t have to listen to stuff like:
“But mama, I’m allergic to that!”
“But mama, we had that last time!”
“Okay, mom what is this?”
“So… do you mind cooking me a steak instead?”
Get my point?
Now you know why mama doesn’t mind eating alone sometimes 😉
So…
Today, I decided to show you what a typical “Mama’s home alone” meal looks like in my world. As you can see in the photo above, I have steamed myself a fine kettle of blue crab from the great state of Maryland!
Never mind the beer bottle next to the crab as Mr. Adams may or may not be accompanying me. I’m so sorry, but I can neither confirm nor deny any information relative to his continued presence.
However, I will say that a nice glass of Gewürztraminer just called for an invite.
I’m not sure which way I’ll go with that. What say you?
Beer or a glass of wine?
I’ll wait until I hear back before I make my decision. If I don’t hear back soon I might end up drinking both.
Guys, please don’t let that happen 😉
Anyway, you all know me, I’m always looking for ways to “edutain” myself. And to that end, I decided to search for a Youtube video on crab eating.
Don’t get it twisted, I already know how to do it, I just wanted to conduct a quick survey of techniques.
10 gozillion results later, I came across this little unpolished gem which shows a brother from Maryland (I think) giving a very thorough and practical demonstration on the ‘proper way’ to eat a crab.
Ladies, listen out for a couple of double entendres! LOL! You might need a cigarette afterwards 😉
Side note: After viewing the video, my blogger friend T. Wayne, who also hails from that great state, offered only one critique and that was, “At least use a knife when eating the claw meat dude!”
I love this dude! Trust me, if you watched this, you now know all you need to know about eating crab!
A brother kept it 💯!
Now what?
By the way, I’m eating my crab now. Is it beer or wine?
Meet me in comments 🙂
Enjoy your weekend!
That sounds really good 😊

Loved those blue crabs, but I always, always cut my fingers, and those spices were painful on open scratches ! ☺

Now that’s my kind of meal! I say drink what you want as long as you enjoy your meal. As for the video demo, that dude shows a unique view of eating crabs.
Blue crabs have been a staple in my diet since the tender age of 4. I must say that my favorite seasoning for blue crab would be old bay but garlic blue crabs can make you have second thoughts about the best seasonings.

As I brit I have to ask…… can you eat such a meal with lots of greasy chips (fries)?
(My family despair at my basic approach to food)

What Geo Gee says…you have to have beer with crabs. Now, even though I’m from the great state of Maryland, my mom is the crab eating specialist. She says that you need some Old Bay seasoning with vinegar to dip the crab meat in, and for sides you can have corn on the cob.
Hope you enjoyed your steamed Maryland blue crabs!

OK! Beer wins!
But, thank God I got some crab left! How you gon’ hold out on Mama’s good information about the old bay and vinegar? Ask her what kind of vinegar.
I prolly should’ve called her from the jump! LOL!

I’ll make sure of the Old Bay, but it definitely figures in to crab prep and eating. Definitely the vinegar though.

My mama knows her crab eating! LOL. She also picked them at the same seafood house where I learned to shuck soft shell clams. She taught me how to do that too, but I hated it. The best part was the money I go for school clothes!

And brother T –your Mom is 100% on point .If those crabs are coated in Old Bay they are going to get tagged a fraud haul from another state. Crabs without Old Bay is like T without the Wayne, Pepsi without cola, seek the best without the blog, – somethings missin’.

Ohh yeah the vinegar. Gotta have that. Cuz T and Unc G gonna have ta take a road trip to ya parts and brang up some Maryland Crawlers your favorite wine but not before we stop and load the professor up in the “Panther Truck” and feed you crabs “proper” on your own terms.
I can hear the professor now yanking my collar ” Gee this doesn’t smell right ” LOL. That would be one hell of a meet up The “professor Ron , “T”, You , ohh the stories that would come out of that meeting would be Novella best sellers.

After living in the state of Maryland for 13 years – Beer and crabs go together like tires and rims, Sears and Roebuck, Frick and Frack, Tom and Jerry. Oh they won’t run you out of the state for having a nice quiet mommy alone dinner of crabs and wine but if you popping off a cookout, Scandal watch party, family reunion etc and you got bushels of crabs and no beer – you going to get some side-eyes and folks making down low beer runs.
Love this post – made me hungry for some Maryland crabs.

So in other words, do whatcha like at the house but if you gonna have company you better do it right! LOL!
But no you didn’t holler Frick and Frack. That’s what my mama would call any pair of idiots that she encountered. LOL!
G, you always bring the party 🙂
