My Jams ’92

My Jams 1990s

My Jams posts contain adult language and controversial observations.  Actual release dates may vary.

I’m so happy ‘cause today

I’ve found my friends

They’re in my head

I’m so ugly, that’s okay, cause so are you

We broke our mirrors

Sunday morning is every day for all I care

And I’m not scared

Light my candles in a daze

Cause I’ve found God

Hey, hey, hey!

—From “Lithium” by Nirvana—

You know what Kurt?  I wish I could find some friends in my head.

Seriously, I’m about to go stir-crazy sitting here waiting for some good news.  I mean, since graduation, I’ve been putting a couple of irons in the fire but everything seems to be at a standstill.

By the way, I had to turn down one job offer.

Why?  You ask?

Because I applied for one thing and they kept trying to push me into something completely different.

Simply put, I don’t have it in me to go around investigating all the ways that people neglect and abuse their kids.

I hate to have to jump on somebody!

Kurt, I’m not a violent person but I can’t tell you how I might respond in a situation where I know somebody is abusing a child.

God bless the people that can do that work.

It just ain’t for me.

Anyway, right now I’m waiting to hear back about a fellowship that I applied for.

But, I’ll level with you Kurt, my mind is still reeling from taking that freaking GRE.

Overall, I think I did OK, but check out this crazy ass sample test question:

As a manager, you are tasked with planning a staff meeting.  Your meeting attendees include  Al, Bert, Candy and Don.  Bear in mind that Al can never sit next to Don and Don must always be seated next to Candy and Candy must never be seated to the left of Al.

Which option (A,B, C or D) represents the best seating plan for your meeting?

Shit…I don’t dammit know.

To be honest, I kept looking for option E which, in my mind, was “Cancel that bullshit and send a memo of your dictates.”

Hmph…

Like I said, other than that, I think I did well enough.

Uh oh, Kurt, I gotta go, here comes the mailman.  Maybe he has some good news; or at least a love letter.

Oh yeah, one more thing Kurt, please tell Dave Grohl that I might be down with the swirl!

🙂 🙂 🙂

YAASSSS!  The Mailman!  Primary carrier of all news and information happening!  And yes, I meant to word it just like that.  Don’t worry, you’ll get used to my strange phrasing.

E-mail? Text message?  What in the world is that?

Hell Lady G didn’t even get a pager (beeper) until 1993.

Oh, and Fax machines were for businesses honey.

Moving on…

Y’all, Kurt Cobain, of Nirvana, was my imaginary confidant at that moment in time.

Sadly, he left us a few years later.

RIP.

Believe it or not, Lady G used to rock the hell out of Nirvana’s “Lithium.”

Frankly, back then, it seemed like a fitting tune for Generation X; you know, intermittent lows and highs.

That was us!

Or maybe it was just me 🙂

LOL!!!!

Anyway, how are you doing on this sultry afternoon in 1992?  I pray that all is well with you.

In any case, you’ll have plenty of space to tell me about it at the After-Party!

And so…

You know what’s up right?

My Jams ‘92

Remember the time by Michael Jackson

YAAASSS honey, when Mike released that video and the peoples saw him do that dance locally known as “The Georgia” we hollered!  I can’t really describe it but I bet you know what I’m talking about: “I bet ‘choo remember, I bet ‘choo remember…”

Now, to be honest, that dance move prolly had many different names.

But down here we KNOW it’s “The Georgia.”

Don’t walk away by Jade

“My love won’t hurt you!”

Chile those Queen Divas kilt it!

No matter, they had their own thing going on and this was a nice jam.

Breaking my heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)/Forever in your eyes by Mint Condition

“Pretty Brown Eyes” was my “girl” Davida’s jam!  Davida (born David) was my heart.

Whenever we’d go to the club he would decline to slow dance with a woman.

His favorite response was, “Uh no, you might not hold me right.”  LOL!!!!

YAASSSS honey!  Lady G always has and ALWAYS will have much love and respect for the Queens!

Please, no anti-gay comments, Lady G will cuss your ass out about it!

That said, let’s all play nice!

Anyway, I got about a million tales I could tell about me and my ‘girls!’

But I’ll save that tea for later 🙂

Pass it on!

We got a love thang/Inside that I cried CeCe Peniston

Honey, Queen Diva CeCe could belt out a jam, couldn’t she?

This is probably one of my favorite jams by “The Purple One.”

It is so profound and so true!

Don’t slip, Lady G loves thought provoking art of any kind.

The album!

Greg Nice kilt me rapping on “Remind me.”

“Infatuated in love with you skiddalee wah wah; Pepe Le Pew!”

Yes he did bite BOTH The Flintstones AND the damn Looney Tunes!

And what?!

LOL!

Anyway, Mary went and showed her entire ass in ‘93 with “My Life.”

But that’s next year…

So…

Here’s what I was digging in the world of Hip Hop for 1992

Don’t sweat the technique by Eric B and Rakim

Ok children, know this, if you were to ask Biggie or Tupac about flow, they would point you to Rakim!

The rapper’s rapper!

YAAASSSS!

Y’all don’t want nar’n day of Rakim!

Side note:  The word ‘nar’n, is a Southern U. S.  colloquialism for “NONE” or “Not one” or  “Not any.”

You get it now right?

Rakim? Check his technique aspiring rappers!

Learn from your elders 😉

They want EFX by Das EFX

Bum stickity…

I just can’t with that!

The kids loved it!  Shout out to “The Stoker” all up and through Augusta and the ATL.

Fakin’ the Funk by Main Source

Stop frontin’ or you will get called out!

Me and my baby boy rock this all day every day!

Question, what is the connection between actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. and this jam?

Go google it…I’ll wait!

They Reminisce T.R.O.Y by Pete Rock and C. L. Smooth

Much respect to Trouble T-Roy

RIP

Ex girl to the next girl by Gang Starr

“The girls look so good..”

“NEXT!”

Can’t nobody hit that “NEXT” like Guru!

RIP Brah!

I got a man by Positive K

“What ‘cha man gotta do with me?”

Ladies, if we heard that line once, we heard it a thousand times.

Dudes still runnin’ it!

LOL!

Happy 70th Birthday Mama!  WE LOVE YOU! 🎂🎁

Alas, we have come upon the witching hour!  It is time to release 1992 back into years gone by. Love you 1992!

But…

We can still keep it going in comments!  YAASSSS!  It’s the after-party!

Bring your commentary, your memories, and your jams!

Well Cuz,, at last count there were 27 people living in my head and I just be doggone if not a one of them can remember “The Georgia”. I watched the video and I think I know the move you’re speaking of. It’s kinda like your head and feet turn like they’re going somewhere and you hands and torso kinda stay put.

LOved the intro, as always Cuz. As for my list, it definitely includes “Remember the Time’; great special effects and moves by the master.

I’m down with you on that Mint Condition too! Pretty Brown Eyes too. THem brown eyes belonged to Angie B in them days. lol///\\We got married that year. Aaron was born in 93.

    1. Oh yes cousin! You got that dance pegged just right. We called it the Georgia when I was in Atlanta. What’s funny is it was named that by some folks from up North because they swore that it originated down here.
      If I’m lying I’m flying!
And YAAAASSSSS!!! Angie B had some of the biggest prettiest eyes you ever did see.
Ol’ Good looking Aaron made his debut in ’93 and Pretty boy Adam was still waiting in the cut! I wonder if he likes carrot salad from Chick Fil a like his Mama did when she was pregnant 🙂
Your Auntie Eva called it first, she looked at Angela J Brown while she was eating that salad and said, “That heffa just as pregnant!”
I hollered, hell Angela had to laugh’bout that!
Anyway, Your jams are the bomb. I left off En Vogue hoping somebody would pick it ’em up and thanks for saving me after my Gerald LeVert heart scare! LOL

You certainly know how to bottle up and preserve the energy from ‘The Days of Yore’.
Just one sniff of this has woken me up.

  4. Ohmigoodness… 1992! I don’t know any of these songs, I’m ashamed to say! Well, I know what my research project is going to be this weekend… to catch up with ’92!! Something about that year is making me block it out… oh yeah, I know… a really bad relationship (which ended in him spending a few months in prison, I made sure of it). It’s all good though… life lesson learned the hard way. (hopefully that’s not TMI?) Like I said though… I’ll be turning on the tunes this weekend so I can hear what I missed! And that little puzzle you put up there… know that I’ll be working on it as well, hahaha! Always good to see your jams, Lady G! Hope you enjoy your weekend!! xoxo

    1. Paula, had a quiet moment and realized that I missed something in your comment. I just wanted to acknowledge that I just saw the part about the break up and the guy going to jail. I also wanted to tell you how happy I am that you were the triumphant one in that situation.
No need to study up on ’92 my love, I don’t want to bring up bad memories.
We’ll catch back up in ’93.

You’re a couple of years younger than me.
          I left before 1990.
Oh yeah! I also talked about TROOPER TERRY! Do you remember him and the little cartoon man Freddie?

          Liked by 2 people

        2. Of course I remember! Girl Trooper Terry was the MAN!!! Even though he did look like Roy Clark’s older white haired brother. I loved Terry. He passed recently I think.
This is so cool…like a high school reunion without all the perpetrating and hating!

        3. LOL! I know right! Trooper Terry was the shit!
Yeah, I heard he had passed.
I was sad too. He made lots of kids smile.
I remember thinking hey ain’t he the weather man, Terry Sams?
Don’t be trying to mix a little sista up!

  5. Lady G,
Let me get up and do my thang…GIRL…stay on the scene like a Sex Machine…taking me on a trip once again! You are the cruise Director of the Time Travel Express!
First of all, you had me at Johnny Gill. Probably one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite movies (“Maaahhhccussss, dahling”) I saw JG in concert and that was an AfterParty that needs its own post…He is a beautiful man. My…my…my
Ok…now to Kurt and Dave. To me, Kurt was the poet laureate of us Gen X’ers. I wore plaid for a week after his death in tribute. And as for Dave…there is just something about his Jesus-looking ass that makes me wanna get biblical. Woooo.
And you kept it real with Jade, Prince and Eric B and Rakim! I bow at your feet because you are the Queen of the compilation and you’ve made me go through those old raggedy boxes in my closet in search of my old mixtapes!
I will add one…not that I am a West Coast chic, but Dre’s “Let Me Ride” was a staple that summer…hell yeah.
Once again, you are the Queen! And if you don’t know…now you know. When you say Lady G, but some RESPECK on it!
(Birthday love to your Mom, Lovely Gwin. Thinking of you)

I love the way you tease with those celebrity link ups; do tell!
Yeah, I was all about Nirvana! Like you, I wouldn’t mind getting biblical with Dave! LOL! Anthony Kiedis and Flea with The Red Hot Chili Pepper were the business too. “Breaking the girl!” YAAASSSS!
Oh and by the way, you are absolutely right with “Let me Ride.” I try not to get too Hip Hoppy but I should have included that one.
      Tess you you’re my girl!
Thanks for ALL the love & respeckk! And thanks for remembering Mama!

      1. Lady G…absolutely love you, Chica! And I did have a thing for Anthony Kiedis too. Still do.
And did I detect a mention of the AUG in your post? That’s my zip code, although I work in the Cola. Don’t know where you are…but I bet you are close-by.
And there is a lot to tell about that After Party…I will have to be clever in how I write that one…think i may have signed a non-disclosure agreement. LOL. But I’ll put the kettle on the stove and pour the tea in a tawdry little post soon.

        1. I know I am all out of order here…but “Turn Off the Lights” is a personal favorite. When I hear “Wishing on a Star” I am reminded of the Big DM’s “Quiet Storm” (In Columbia)…seems it was always followed by the World Class Wreckin; Cru’s song…which was followed by Keith Sweat’s “Right and Wrong Way”. Those songs are forever in my head together…in that order, because of the station’s playlist. But I’m not complaining LOL.

Great list, as always Twin! I can honestly say I NEVER had a beeper. Had no need for one.

So nice to see Chante Moore on this list. Can you say CRUSHED!!! Thought so. When she arrived Vanessa had to make room! And yeah, it’s good to see my ‘Nessa on the list too; I truly loved the Comfort Zone album. And Jade! Whoo….wherever Di Reed, Joi Marshall and Tonya Kelly are today, I owe them a debt of everlasting gratitude for that song and video (yes I knew their names lol.)

Somehow, I knew Jodeci was gonna roll through here. And extra glad to see Mint Condition here. Pretty Brown Eyes still kills. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop here. Like the hip-hop joints too! Fakin’ the Funk is always good!

Girl I loved me some Nirvana and some Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I have to agree with your mom. What in the hell would you need with a beeper at 11.
Since I was (cough, cough) older, I could get away with it.
Chile, with the pagers, instead of keying in a call back number, we used to have numeric codes for when we were up to no good! LOL!
