My Jams ’93

MJ '91 CDs

My Jams posts contain adult language and controversial observations.  They are not exhaustive, nor are they in any particular order.  Song release dates vary.

“Ma, Da!  When y’all go to Alabama can y’all bring me back some souse meat and some red hot link sausages—you know the kind like Granddaddy buy?”

(Mama and Daddy, simultaneously, place their hands over their hearts and give overly exaggerated looks of shock and awe.)

Mama:  (In the most uppity voice she can muster.)  “Whaaaat? Lady Di wants souse meat and red hot saaawsages?”

Daddy:  (In an even more uppity voice.) “Well!  What will the people say?”

Mama:  “Look like L’il Eli gon’ be a ghetto baby!”

Whatever!

I’m just getting my appetite back after spending a few weeks over the toilet puking my guts out!

I’m ready to eat now!

This pregnancy has flipped the freaking script on ME!   I can’t eat any of the things that I normally love.

No oysters, no crab, no lobster, no shrimp…nothing like that!

All I want is stuff that I wouldn’t normally be caught dead eating or drinking.

The other day I wanted some damn red Kool-aid!

What kinda shit is that?  Especially if you consider the fact that I am a Coca-cola/Sweet tea kind of girl!

🙂 🙂 🙂

YAAAASSSSS! LadyG gon’ have a baby!

But let me digress.

Here’s something that you didn’t know.

Mama’s nickname for me, since about age 12, was Lady Di.

I named myself Lady G (In honor of Lady T–Teena Marie) around the same time but Mama always called me Lady Di because I had a certain air about me–you know, like I was royalty.

Only I wasn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I was a nice and mannerable child-Mama wouldn’t have had it any other way-but I did give off a hinkty vibe from time to time.

Sometimes I still do. I can’t help it 😉

If Mama was alive today, she’d probably be asking, “Who in the hell is Lady G?”

But that was Mama 😉

Oh, just so you know, “souse meat” is also known as “head cheese.”

Do NOT ask what it is made of.

And so…

How are you doing on this sunny Saturday in 1993?  What do you have planned for today? Do tell!  Either way, whatever you got going on right now, put it down so you check out these jams.

My Jams ’93

Freak Me/ It had to be you by Silk

Lady G wanted to take every last one of them Jawja boys –one by one!

Still waiting!

One of my cousins came close tho!

Just call us sunshine!

YAAAASSSSS!

Shole sounds like it!

KC and JoJo are whining like hell on this jam!

No matter, them boys sung the shit out of Stevie Wonder’s classic!

I wonder what happened to those girls?

They were actually really good!

Then they came in with the kill shot on this one!

The riffs on this bad boy are lethal!

One Woman Man by Jade

Did they do it?

Yessir they DID!

“You got to show me and mean the words you say, it’s not a game for me baby, it’s just not that way.”

Shit!!!!

Seven whole days by Toni Braxton

This Queen Diva is one damn note away from Barry White!

Toni can go low!

But I love that about her!  Too sexy!

But did you peep all them Braxton Queen Divas behind her in the video?

YAAASSSS!  Beautiful sisters that can saaaaaaang!

I loved The Braxton’s jam “So many ways” too!

You don’t have to worry/ No Limit by Mary J Blige

There’s more to Mary than just hopping roun’ the stage on “Real Love.”

This Queen Diva brought it on these jams.

Oh but wait until ‘94!

Y’all ain’t seen a damn thang yet!

Good Old Days by LeVert

And then there was the time that my play-play boyfriend, Gerald, and his peoples started reminiscing about the good old days!

“Oooh bring back all them good ol days..”

Okaaaay!

I loved this jam by Queen Diva Jody!

Bump what ‘cha heard, this  Queen Diva can blow!

The melody and groove of this jam help me get my life!

It’s Alright by Chante Moore

Another Queen Diva that can go up all the way up and through the whistle register!

YAAASSSSSS!

Seems you’re much too busy by Vertical Hold

Don’t act like you don’t recognize Queen Diva Angie Stone when you hear her!

LOL!

First, it was The Sequence, “Ring ding dong, ringadingdingdingdong!”

Then, it was Vertical Hold …

Now, Angie Stone is solo!

You can’t touch her vocals baby!

Give him a love he can feel by Tene Williams

Somebody said Tene was Howard Hewitt’s niece.

I simply cannot be bothered to google it.

That said, whoever she is, this “Queen Diva” DID that on this jam!

Lady G is all about the groove!

Them Duke Ellington “Big Band” style horns is killing me!

YAAAASSSSS!

Um um Good by Men at Large

Aw shit now!

It is possible that Lady G might consider knockin’ boots with a 400 pound dude if he can sing this damn song like Men at Large!

“So doggone good!”

Fellas, put this one on and think about Lady G  😉

Ladies, put this one on and do your thang 😉

Send for me by Gerald Alston

I simply CANNOT!

Call somebody else to do it ’cause I can’t!

Gerald baby please, baby please, baby, baby, please!

To R., my first born:

These jams, and all the ones that came before them, are part of the reason why you appeared in my life when you did!

Now everybody knows why your music knowledge can’t be denied!

Too funky!

You got it from your Mama!

God’s ways are perfect, his methods are sure!

You are a gift from The Most High!

Mama loves you man!

Goodbye, 1993!  May you find repose in the halls of father time.  You’ll always be extra special to me!  I love you!

Yes, I’m late to the party, but hey, only fashionably late, lol! Whoomp! There It Is!
1993 was such a great year! I was 26 (I don’t know how that happened!!), and I was just starting to come into my own! First solo trip to San Francisco for fun!
Hmmm… actually, I’m going to have to stop there… I’ve just realized I was 26 in 1993 and I’m a touch traumatized, hahaha! OMG, it sounds so old for 1993, but only because I know what I was doing 10 years later, holy crap! (hint: I didn’t start my family until I was 37, sheesh… but hey, the son has kept me young, hehe).
Some great jams there, Lady G! And I love the stories about Mama! I know I say it all the time, but she’s my hero!! xoxo
Congratulations on the birth of your son in 1993! I’ll bet he’s turned into an awesome man!!

    1. Hey Paula! Thanks for stopping by!
YAAASSSS! Shai could really sing. I love that song!
My Jams parties are in the ‘eternal now’ so there’s no such thing as being late girl!
As you know Mama has to rear her head from time to time! So glad she’s your hero!
And yes, my son is an AWESOME young man! Talk to you later my friend.
BTW, I mentioned you to my friend in Seattle. She was tickled pink!

Hey Cousin! Once again, you’ve showed your arse! Greart post Lady G. I done et some hoghead cheese. It’s a delicacy that just not for everybody. Try this: 2 honey buns + 2 or 3 slices of head cheese. Put the meat between the two honeybuns and you got a hoghead sandwich that won’t quit.

I liked a lot of the songs on your list, especially
    Lately
    7 whole days
    Mary J.Bliges songs

    Also;

Much too busy by Vertical HKOld and That’s the Way Love Goes by Janet

    1. OOOOOOOHHH Ronnie! I ain’t NEVER heeerd of nobody eating souse meat like that. I can assure you if you have given me that kind of sandwich when I was pregnant I would have been happy as the dickens!
Glad you like the story and the list.
Me and you are always together on them jams!

    Hi there Gwin.
Just had to take some time out on You Tube to listen to some of you Jams.
    Oooh smooth music!
U.N.I.T.Y by Queen Latifah; Now there’s lady with character and style!

    1. You have no idea how much fun I have imagining my proper British friend trying to get with these jams!
But U.N.I.T.Y is a really good one. LOL!
Were you familiar with Queen Latifah through her acting and talk show?

Ooooooh in my music world I have many identities! (though I try not to do dance steps…not a pretty sight). Queen Latifah’s talk show never reach UK mainstream TV. I can remember her in What Happens in Vegas and a voice in Ice Age; I’ll have to check some more. Will have to get Black Reign (I know, like umpteen years behind everyone else…..oh well)
Hope your Sunday goes ok Gwin

        1. It’s kinda complicated. He’s a very private person. I talked a little about him in My Jams ’86 and again in ’91. He actually commented on ’86. I was surprised! LOL!

    Great music selections as always.
Pickles were my cravings with my first born. Milkshakes, for my 2nd, and sardines for my munchkin. She also gave me terrible heartburn. Leave it to the only girl to be a drama queen. 😁 The boys were pretty easy.

    Great post as always. 🌷

Same for me. She came after a huge gap. But she’s healthy and thriving nicely so that’s all that really matters. Hope your princess is well also. Happy weekend. Hugs 🌷

  6. Hi guys! Sorry I was smoking a…nevermind…in the girl’s restroom in middle school! Psych! 😛 Remember when everyone was saying that in ’93?? Lol. At least here they said it A LOT. Uh oh, Lady G was pregnant! That morning sickness is brutal and no joke! OMG! You have SO many good jams! Tupac, Dre, Ice Cube, “Freak Me” (baby making music for sure), “Lately” (that song reminds me of the first guy I kissed) LMAO.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Get your ass out of that restroom! NOW! Before I call your parents young lady! LOL!
Yes, I remember people saying psych. We said it all the way back when I was really young.
      What’d you have for cocktails?
IRL my allergies have been killing me so I apologize for the delayed response. But I’m back now!

I just know your potential little Lisa! Although this is 1993, I have peered into my crystal ball and I can see into 2016!!!!
You will achieve great things! I see people reading your articles on a computer!
Please don’t squander your potential in the bathroom!

  7. T. Wayne

Now let me go find that Janet Jackson album with those hands over her boobs….oh yeah, here it is. Seems that not only were the violins from “Someday We’ll Be Together” used on “If,” but a piece of “Love Child” is part of “You Want This”! They were all over the Supremes on that one!

Another great list, Twin! You had me the first time when you mentioned Toni Braxton (Maryland, stand up)! But when you did the Jody/Shanice/Chante tracks in a row, I was slain!

Another great party! And so LadyG gon’ become MamaG! I’ll be tuned in to the next installment! 🙂

    1. Thanks Twin!
YAAAASSS! Janet’nem were all over The Supremes. Oh but I can’t wait until next year to talk about the ‘new stuff’ she releases! LOL!
Now you know I gotsta have some Toni B up in here. Yes! She’s my Twin’s homegirl!
I am so glad that you are T. Wayne and you approve this list!
      LOL!
I suspect we’ll be talking more thru the weekend when Lisa returns.

  8. Nice jams as always! I have to admit that I didn’t know as much on this list. From around 92-96 my musical knowledge is limited as life was crazy around that time and didn’t get to buy much or listen for that matter. I will need to go back and listen to a lot of these.

  9. B @moylomenterprises

Love your list, it would take a while to make a list of that year but I will give you 5.

    1. Salt n Pepa – Shoop
    2. Boyz to Men – In Still of the Night
    3. Cypress Hill – Insane in the Brain
    4. Arrested Development – Mr. Wend all
    5. Positive K – I got a Man

    1. What’s up B! I see you’ve taken care of your honey do requests! LOL!
I wanted to put Cypress Hill- “Insane in the Brain” but I was listing too many hip hop jams so I had to leave it off. I listed Positive K, “I got a man” in ’92.
Funny story, years ago, I saw a legit news organization run a story titled “Hussein in the Membrane.”
      I hollered!

Yes I have a country, blues, hip hop, it’s all broken down by Genre. I also have a radio playlist. I have a singer/songwriter playlist. I have a good variety.

The capacity on a classic iPod is 40k songs. So most of my music is from the library – borrow CDs and import them. I also have a list of artists that I know I want to buy from ITunes.

        3. Bobby Womack is a freaking MUST!!!!!!
          Start with that album “Understanding”
My brother got his ass whipped for tearing up Mama’s Bobby Womack “Understanding” 8 Track! LOL

        4. Then that’s the album for you:
          “I can understand it”
          “A woman’s gotta have it”
For some good soul jams you need to holler at My Jams ’68-’73!
I already did the work for you.
