Musical Affirmation: 10/13/2016

ferris-wheel-112230_1280

“Happy” by Brick released in 1977

“Feeling happy…soooo happy…FEE-LING happy!”

Brass and woodwinds are in FULL EFFECT on this jam!

All played by one Mr. Jimmy Brown!

Can you say ‘TROMBONE?’

How ’bout “FLUTE?’

Anyway, some of you may remember Mr. Brown’s son, performing artist, Sleepy Brown 🙂

Can you get with that?

ATL is in the house 🙂

YAAASSS!

I’m happy!

That’s right, Lady G has chosen to feel happy today!

Believe it or not, it is a choice!

Either you’ll decide how your day goes…

OR…

People, places and events will make the decision for you!

What’s it gonna be?

Anyway…

Nothing makes me happier than a Ferris Wheel framed by an October sky 🙂

Speaking of which, please focus your attention toward the Giant Wheel pictured above.

Can you believe that joker is 136 feet high?

It’s an attraction at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.

Just a quick nod to Mama 😉

She spent most of her teen years growing up in that fine Midwestern city.

But, truth be told, I’m glad she made it back down South!

Otherwise, I might not have materialized 😉

That sho’ ’nuff makes me happy!

And so…

Today’s affirmation:  I choose to be HAPPY!

Darlings, go into your mind and entertain all of the many reasons why you should be happy.

Then…

MERGE into HAPPY and STAY THERE!

In your own delightful place!

ALL DAY LONG!

Take it on home Brick!

TAKE IT HOME!

By the way, are there any Ferris wheel or amusement park fans in the house?

Better yet, has anybody been on the Giant Wheel at Cedar Point?

As for me, I am a huge fan of the Seattle Wheel (replica), which, last time I checked, was owned by The James H. Drew Exposition out of Augusta GA!  My hometown! (What’s up Tessa?)

Did I mention that Ferris wheels make me happy?

Oh yeah -I did!

LOL!!!

Let’s talk about ALL of that in comments!

Meet me there 🙂

Stay happy y’all!

Lady G

😘💋

    1. Why thank you Mistermaxxx!
Much respect to you too and thank you so much for dropping by and checking me out. I’m an old school Southern girl who loves soul and funk so Brick is a MUST. And yes, they are unsung. I hope to see you back love 🙂

  1. Nothing like some good brass to get the day started. I do like ferris wheels. Hershey Park in my home state of PA used to have a DOUBLE ferris Lady G. They have taken it down. I know, sad moment. Cedar Point! I went to school in Bowling Green, OH. Some of my friends worked there on summer breaks. Fun Friday post!

    1. Hey Susan! Good to ‘see’ you!
Hershey Park? I would love to go to Hershey Park. I’ve heard about it and would love to check it out.
You know, I wonder what the deal is with the double ferris wheel? I can’t help wondering if there was some sort of hazard associated with it. I swear, I haven’t seen one since I was about 11. I can remember standing there watching the individual wheels circulate and then, as if by magic, the whole entire thing would rotate.
Maybe that was just TOO much!
      LOL!!!
Did you ever go to Cedar Point while you were in OH?

        1. LOL!!!
          Space/time continuum!
Yes, it probably opened a portal which sucked it up into the 4th dimension 🙂
          Gone!
          Never to be seen again!
Cedar Point is on my bucket list for sentimental reasons 🙂

        1. I was thinking that they only had fast forward. LOL!!
I remember playing with them on the stereo in that big ass cabinet–looked like a long dresser.
I was a little too young to know what I was doing.
I was prolly singing “This Little Piggy” the whole while. LOL!!

I checked, I think you’re right, no rewind. The sound I remember hearing was from the “Super 8” tapes and players which were able to switch tracks and had two sides instead of one.

        3. LOL!!!!
You actually went back to double check?
I took your word for it 🙂
Never gave it a second thought.
See now that’s one of the things I love about you!
A STRONG sense of integrity 🙂

        4. Now that’s funny! The only reason I knew was because of something I read while prepping for “My Jams 1971.” LOL!!!
I learned to double check stuff because it can come back to bite you in the form of a smarty pants troll. LOL!!

Like me! LOL….As much as I shut people down on under-researched or ill-reasoned statements, I have to stay out in front of those type errors. lol

You are hilarious and I just love you to pieces!
Sadly, some people don’t understand that you are simply trying to get folks to think things through and do the research 🙂
You are, indeed, your uncle’s nephew! LOL!!!!

  2. I haven’t actually been on the wheel in Seattle, can you believe that, but even gentle rides scare the life out of me! I like to play games at the amusement park, and eat all the food, but I have to say no thank you to the rides, lol!

This is a very happy post and made me smile! I love your positive energy! 😀

    1. Thank you Paula!
If this post made you smile then I have accomplished my goal!
You sound like mama, she never rode ANYTHING; she just enjoyed watching us and eating the foods.
BTW, she could eat all she wanted and never get fat! LOL!!
Now when she was a teen in Ohio, I think she did ride those rides but by the time my brother and I were born her ride days were over 🙂

  3. Thanks for the shout-out! I do know that Wheel! In fact I should take a pic when they come back to town for the fair so you post it!
Love the song and the affirmation. And watching anything on Soul Train takes me on a trip back to some of the happiest times in my life! (Don is one of my spirit guides)

    1. YAAASSSSS!
If you got a shot of that wheel I would be thrilled. We rode that one and a double ferris wheel which I haven’t seen since I was a child.
      Quick story…..
One year, possibly 2007ish, I went to Augusta in October in order to go to fair. I was expecting the fair of my childhood; you know, the huge James H. Drew Expo with ALL the rides. You’ll remember that they used to bring all of those rides homes in October for us after they had been leased out to fairs all of the US in prior months.
      Well……..
I gather everybody up and we head to the fairground.
      Uh oh!!!!
I knew there was a problem because I didn’t see the Seattle wheel. Remember, it’s like 90 ft high so you used to be able to see it from a LONG way off.
Baby, when we got to the fairground there was a freaking k-mart parking lot fair there.
      I was HOR-RI-FIED!
Where was my fair? Where was my Seattle wheel? Where were all of the newest, hottest rides?
Where the HELL was James H. Drew?
Uh….this was the James Somebodyelse Expo and it was about an eighth of the size of the fair I remember.
I was like,”Is this a case of ‘you can’t go home again'”
      Nawww…it wasn’t that…
My friends were like, “Oh we could have told you that The AEC is not using the Drew Exposition– That stopped some time in the early 2000!”
      I was like WTF?
They told me that the ‘fair’ of my childhood is located elsewhere and is now called the Georgia-Carolina something or other.
Sorry to vent, but I have some strong feelings associated with this thing!
      What say you?

Love this! And I know of that mousetrap-coaster in the ATL!
I love a Ferris Wheel myself…and the one at the Navy Pier in Chicago is lovely…especially at night. Makes me happy to think of it!
(And we are all GLAD your sweet mama came back down South…where would we be without our Lady G?)

    1. Hi Angs!
      You are so sweet!
So you know what I mean about the Mindbender? It was shakier than a mug!
I have never been to Chicago, but word on the street is that it is the city where the next blogger convention will be. That said, maybe you and I can meet at that Ferris Wheel 🙂
Thanks for stopping by love 🙂

We would have a blast in Chicago..good food, great music and amazing art. It’s my kinda town…and I have a feeling it would be yours too…
And as for the Mindbender…it WAS shaky and just sounded like it was about to come apart at any given moment. Not for me…

        1. Hi Angs!
Many people have told me that I would love Chicago! I’ve had family and friends who’ve lived there but I just haven’t made it. Someone told me that that the winter hawk up there ain’t no joke 🙂 LOL!
Hawk or no, I’ll bet we’d have an awesome time 🙂

Oh wow…this takes me back Twin! We used to have that album and I loved that song!

I liked Ferris wheels, but what I really lived for was roller coasters! The more flips, twists and turns the better. Nothing like riding one that does corkscrew turns and goes upside down (which are probably old tricks now), but I loved them. But I had to get over my fear of them first, which happened at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. I got on the Loch Ness Monster and things were never the same afterwards. After that, they couldn’t come up with a coaster that I wouldn’t try.

And as for my present state of mind, I am happier for having read this post! 🙂

    1. Thanks Twin! A man after my own heart! Glad you liked this jam. I always have you in the back of my mind when I select a song. LOL!
I was commenting in comments-to myself- that the long version of this song is FIRE! I bleeeve Jimmy played every damn piece of brass and woodwind that he could find. He did that on this jam and on “Ain’t gon’ hurt nobody.”
Then he dropped the freaking mic!
      YAAAASSSSS!
Glad you are in happy state of mind.
As for roller coasters, I learned my lesson about those after riding that raggedy-ass Mindbender at Six Flags in ATL. That damn thing looked like somebody was playing the game “Mousetrap” in some Georgia backwoods.
I hope they dismantled it! LOL 🙂

Hahaha! I was threatened with death by my ex when she insisted that she ride the Shockwave at Kings Dominion with me! She spent the whole ride after the first drop saying that she was going to kill me! LOL

I laugh because I KNEW she hated rollercoasters, and yet she wanted to get on one anyway. Not something simple like the Rebel Yell at KD, but the Shockwave, a stand-up coaster and one of the first at that park, if not the first. She wasn’t so eager the rest of the weekend…

    1. Oh also…if you liked this taste you should listen to the Long version of this jam!
Jimmy kills the brass! He is a freaking BEAST with Brass and woodwinds!
This and “Ain’t gon’ hurt nobody.”
      WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

  6. Your post was quite uplifting, Lady G! Made me want to spin some Bootsy Collins at work. I’m not an amusement park kind of guy, and I don’t like ferris wheels. Especially ferris wheels that have scary clowns on them. 😉

    1. Ok you almost made me burn my roast talking about Bootsy:
      “I’d rather be with you…yeah!”

      Glad you liked it!
Clowns? Oh no! Not on my Ferris wheel 🙂
