Sunday Dinner with Lady G’s Son 10-16-2016

Steak tips with mushrooms, spinach, apricot glazed butternut squash and basmati rice

So last Sunday, I shared a shot of my Sunday dinner.

In that post I talked about how much I love to cook and eat.  I also shared that I learned to cook by watching Mama.

Well…

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one watching Mama; it seems that my dear son, Sir R, was taking a couple of notes of his own.

Ever since he was about 10 years old, Sir R, has been very interested in cooking. And, with that being the case, he would watch me, Mama and Daddy whenever we went into the kitchen to prepare a meal.

In addition, he watched episode after episode of “Good Eats” with Alton Brown.

Before I knew anything, this kid was preparing full course meals by age 11.

When I say full course, I mean FULL COURSE!

Did I tell you about the time he cooked the most delectable and succulent standing rib roast you could ever imagine when he was only about 15 years old?

YAAASSSSS!

No frozen pizzas and ramen noodles for this dude 🙂

My baby can throw down in the kitchen–as evidenced by the meal pictured above 😉

To be honest, I’m glad too.

I used to tell him, “You need to learn how to cook whatever you like to eat, I don’t want you marrying somebody just because she can cook your favorite dish!”

LOL!

Forgive me guys, I crack my own self up sometimes 🙂

Anyway, a couple of years after graduating high school and going off to college, Sir R decided to become a certified personal trainer.

He had already established and maintained a healthy lifestyle so I encouraged him to go ahead and make it official.

And so…

As a health nut  health enthusiast, and lover of good food, my baby boy digs creating nutritious versions of most any traditional dish.

To that end, he enjoys experimenting with unconventional ingredients in order to prepare balanced meals that are both cost effective and tasty.

Believe it or not, you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money to eat healthfully!

Anyway…

I really wish you guys were here to partake of this meal with us 😉

Any thoughts?  I’d love to hear them!  Meet me in comments 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your day and I pray that you have a blessed week !

Love Lady G and Sir R!

😘💋

    1. Thank you Davina! It’s nice to meet you! I was admiring your comment over on Tikeetha’s blog. I can’t wait to see how she tackles it!
I really appreciate your sweet compliment about my baby 🙂

  1. Welp … I am drooling some serious droolage! You have done A-1 on the raising of Sir R and someday there is gonna be a truly or is that drooly lucky girl in his life. If she loves cooking like he does … can you imagine the table spreads. Wish I could say my cooking skills came from my Mama. She was more than fabulous in the kitchen and church socials were her glory. My sis and I were there to clean up after but she wanted everyone “OUT!” of the kitchen while she was cooking. Was a cryin’ shame. Buttermilk biscuits, apple pies cooling on the window sill, beans and cornbread, chili (OMG Heaven), fried chicken to perfection, beautiful and perfectly gooey pineapple upside-down cake in an iron skillet, and on and on and on … wonderful! Oh, I can cook … but the struggle to learn was a hard road. Dang it, what was she thinking? 😉 Outside of her “kitchen enigma” side, she did the best for each of us. 🌹 As she would say, “She sure put a good scald on that.” Always love your posts.

    1. As we say in the South, “Lawd have Mercy!”
Your mama was the truth in the kitchen!
If I remember correctly you grew up close to the Midwest right? If so, that explains it! LOL! Southern and Midwestern Mama’s cook alike!
God, I hope I’m right! LOL!!!!
Anyway, I get what your mom was doing- sometimes it is easier to just cook the food rather than having to explain everything you do and why. But, in the long run, it can bite you in the butt because when you get older and tired, there is no one to help you 😦
But that said, if you ever make it to Georgia, just let me know and I’ll have a good plate of homecooking waiting for you!
      Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Oh and thanks for the compliment about Sir R! He really is a great son 🙂

    1. Thanks for checking it out Susan! Actually, my son is a Science lover so that is the exact reason why Alton Brown appealed to him.
Sir is in his last year of school which is about an hour and a half away so I don’t get to enjoy his meals that often 🙂

  2. A @ moylomenterprises

Good advice to teach him to cook and not marry a girl just because she can. Men need to understand relationships are equal partnerships now and not that ‘women in the kitchen cooking’ nonsense of yesteryear!

Lady G, you starting to freak me out!
Everytime I read your stories I find yet another thing we have in common! 😁

My eldest is also a health nut and is studying to be a personal trainer. He also experiments in the kitchen. He may not have your boy’s skills but he can make a few meals. I also encouraged him to be self sufficient so he doesn’t have to rush into any relationship or marriage unless he’s truly ready.

Congrats on raising a fine young man. You should be very proud! ☺

That Ribroast was the SHIT! My nephew threw down on that one. Here is the best part. After we ate all we could eat, we sliced it really thin and made Philly Cheesesteaks out of it! Damn what a day!

    1. That’s my baby brother y’all!
      He’s right!
Nobody can repurpose food like we can! LOL!!
One thing’s for sure, we can’t be no breatharians- we brought eating to town! Good food don’t stand a chance around us😂
Love you man! Thanks for stopping by💋

    1. Hey, hey Paula!
Sorry, that song just popped in my head! LOL!
Anyway, he cooks ‘by heart’ and never writes anything down–just like me and mama! I’ll guarantee you that he never makes a dish the exact same way twice 😉
You just gotta visit us! LOL!!!
      You just got to!

You raised him right! My almost twenty year old son can make a mean omelet, but that’s the extent of it! I think that gene skipped him! But Sir R definitely has some cooking chops, mama!
The meal looks delicious…I don’t know if there’s anything on this earth that I love more than butternut squash…this post has just inspired me to make my butternut squash risotto!

    1. Thank you Angs!
      You are too kind 🙂
Did you show your baby how to make that omelet? I’ll bet you did 🙂
I sure would love for you to share your recipe for that risotto.
The last time I had risotto was at an Italian restaurant and it included all of the fruits of the sea–of course it was written in Italian–maybe “fruitti de mer “or something like that. Either way it was the BOMB!
      I LOVE italian food.
Here’s something funny, when we did the DNA ancestry testing, I had ancestors from every place in Europe except Italy and Greece! I was so disappointed because I figured that I must have been part Italian since I love the cuisine so much! Ah, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Anyway, that was waaaaay more than you wanted to know- I’m sure 🙂
