Real Good Food: Brussels Sprouts

brussel-sprouts

So you don’t like Brussels spouts?

Well I’ll bet you’d like these!

No?

LOL!!

Okay….

What if I added something extra?

brussel-spouts-porkchops

Aww c’mon….open your mind to some real good food!

By the way, the Brussels spouts shown here came from the frozen aisle!

Lady G cooked them earlier this week 🙂

From FROZEN!

Can you believe that?

Yeah, sometimes I buy frozen because I often wait too long to cook fresh veggies and they end up going bad.

So…I buy them frozen and cook them just as I would if they were fresh.

YAAASSS!

When are y’all coming over to eat?

Have a wonderful week!

Love and light to you!

Lady G

😘💋

  1. Lol at the internal dialogue throughout this. I don’t like brussel sprouts! Thing is: I’ve never even had them! I know, I know, that makes no senseeee. I just don’t like how they look and the name “brussel sprouts”. Lol, we have to rename them!

Is that bacon I see in the pictures? If so, that is a good selling point! I am open to trying them, and the more you have on the plate to take all the attention away from the brussel sprouts THE BETTER lol.

  2. Hi! If I can tell you a short story? I came here from Chevvy’s blog. She and I believe in “synchronicity” and it’s power. And quite coincidentally, I had Brussels sprouts with bacon and butter just this week, so when I saw your post & pic, I did a double take!
    Looks appetising!
    Merry 🎄 Christmas!

    1. Merry Christmas! It’s very nice to meet you Kunal 🙂
I’ve ‘seen’ you before on Chevvy’s blog.
By the way, I love that story!
I recently blogged about an experience of ‘synchronicity’ that I had with another blogger.
      It was pretty amazing 🙂
Have a great day and thanks for sharing that story and for stopping by 🙂

  3. after all these years of living I’m just now getting into Brussels sprouts. The first time I ate some. I didn’t know what they were and called my sister to ask what them little, circle, green vegetables are. She asked was I serious and then said they are Brussels sprouts. I told her that I had just ate some. She laughed at me then said I was slow. LOL!

    1. LOL!!! You and your sister are a trip 🙂
And yes, Brussels sprouts are amazing! You just gotta know how to cook them.
Or find someone that can 🙂
BTW I was just reading your recent post and I wanted to comment but I couldn’t get the comment box to show. So I’ll just go ahead and tell you that I really enjoyed your topic, and, like you, I just can’t understand what’s up with our folks. By now, every adult ought to have enough sense not to go around trying to provoke folks for no reason…And from a distance no less!
All I want is a dude to get home safely with his ice cream! LOL!!
Thanks for stopping by love 🙂

  4. Okay, I have a confession. I lived in Brussels when I got my masters. I worked there too. So I had years to embrace those little sprouts. Never once did I try them. Your photo just inspired me to come up with a dish. And like you, I’ll be visiting the frozen isle too. If you’re not buying seasonal, then the frozen section is the place to be. 🙂

    1. Wow! That must have been an exciting time in your life!
I would love to live and work abroad 🙂
Now Ellie, I cannot believe that you didn’t try the sprouts—in the land of their namesake 🙂
      LOL!!!
Anyway, I can’t wait to see the magic that you make with these babies 🙂

      1. So I ordered Brussels sprouts last night when I went out with friends. Lol, everyone made fun of me for never trying them before. I have to admit, I like the little veggies. I’ll be adding them to salads from now on.

    1. BACON!!! YAAAASSSSS!
You know I’m a Southern girl so Bacon is a MUST!
But seriously, I’ve prepared them with just oil and they were pretty doggone good 🙂
Your way sounds delicious! That little hit of lemon at the end is ingenious!

    1. Sounds wonderful with the garlic salt!

I think the key to frozen is to limit any additional water and to cook them a little less longer than you’d normally cook them. At least that’s what I did here 🙂

  6. I had to laugh at Tracy’s comment there – you’d better convert them. On the other hand, I haven’t eaten brussels sprout in a while. We usually cook them in what we call a “Potjie kos) this is a mixture of all sorts of things thrown into a three-legged cast iron pot on an open fire. Your food looks good enough to eat off the screen. Mouth watering and sumptuous!😀

        1. Oooh girl thanks!
I will be looking that up!
Hey, if I try a variation I will surely take a picture and post it here in honor of my dear Chevvy 🙂
BTW, I loves me some falling of the bone meat 🙂

        2. Aint no one can clean a bone like my eldest daughter. Guess it’s in the family. My father always said that before I was six months old, without teeth, I was always pointing at a bone that someone else was chewing on. So I’m with you there Sista!

  7. Didn’t I tell you?! I’m coming over for Christmas dinner!! 😀
Your Brussels sprouts look delicious! I had some myself for dinner tonight, roasted, with turnips. Admittedly not my favorite veggie, but a powerhouse of goodness nonetheless! Although I think you’ve got yourself a masterpiece right there! 😀

    1. Hello there friend!
I just fry up a little bacon in a pan, remove the bacon add the sprouts then let them steam in the bacon drippings with a little water.
      Et voila!
Oh yeah, I chop the cooked bacon and sprinkle over the sprouts.
I season with salt and red pepper flakes.
If you decide to try it let me know! I’d love to hear how it turned out 🙂

  8. Jess

OMG I love Brussels Sprouts!!! I normally bake them with olive oil and salt and pepper until they are browned and even a little burnt on one side. SO GOOD!! Yours look delicious too!! You should post the recipe!
