By the way, this has been a very busy year for me.
I am preparing for a HUGE event! Don’t worry, I’ll tell you more about it when the time comes 🙂
As a result of all this busy-ness, I have gotten behind on reading the wonderful posts that you guys have written 😦
I am in the process of catching up!
While I might not be able to read each one, I will certainly be stopping by your blogs as soon as I can!

I have loved dogs for as long as I can remember.  In fact, one of my earliest memories was of my dad asking me to name our newest pooch.  I was only 3 years old and my vocabulary was considerably small so I blurted out the first thing that came to mind and that was “Sheppy!”  You might be wondering where I got that name.  My best guess is that it was a childish corruption of the word ‘Shepherd.’  Clearly, I must have overheard my parents mention that our new dog was a German Shepherd.  ‘Sheppy’ was the closest approximation to ‘Shepherd’ that I could muster.

Believe it or not, Sheppy was one of my first and greatest teachers.  Unfortunately, I can’t say that I was always the best student.  But that never seemed to matter to Sheppy; he simply kept repeating the lessons. Now you might be wondering how a…

  1. Cute name with Sheppy! I’ll tell you Lady G – for yearssss, I hated dogs. I would see them and cross the street, I would avoid petting them, and I said I never wanted to own one. But now my fam has a dog … a pitbull. And I love him more than anyone in my entire family lol.

    What has my pet taught me? He has taught me the meaning of loyalty. If someone leaves the house, he sits in the front window and waits until you get back. When you come back, he greets you at the door all extra excited. So, in a way, he has taught me what love is. =D

    1. Awww D! That does my heart good. Dogs really do teach us so much about love.
      Doesn’t it feel good to have your dog “extra excited” just to see you?
      LOL!!!
      That kinda thing can only happen for a really short time with humans. After awhile they’ll be like….yeah, yeah..you home now…AND?

  2. I don’t know if you started following me then, but my dog died last March. Girl, I didn’t know how I was going to go on!!! That toy poodle is the only dog I’ve ever owned and the way I feel, it’s probably the only one I will own lol I can’t do the whole putting the dog down thing again. But to answer your question, Rascal taught me the exact same things and also how to just BE. He used to sit on the porch and let the wind blow through his hair without a care in the world.

    1. Girl NO! You know I would’a cried with you!
      I really feel what you mean about going through that again because dogs don’t have a long lifespan.
      That said, I still think it’s worth it to get another loyal four legged friend!
      BTW, you brought me to a cold dead stop when you mentioned how your little Rascal taught you to just BE! YAAASSSS! That’s it!
      I can see him sitting there with that hair just a blowing! Angel does that too 🙂

  3. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ there are no bad dogs only bad owners….You're a good one, there's so many of us….as hubby likes to say, if I have to come back as something in my next life, I want to come back as one of our dogs….they eat better than we do ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ Yup! Love 'em all!!!! and this post too ❤ ❤

    Lady is back, alright that’s what’s up. Great post. But to be petty, what about Blackie? You know that dog that would always chase you guys when you was younger.

    1. Precisely GP!
      I’m also wary of people that dogs don’t like–especially if the dog is typically friendly.
      On a similar note, I used to take horseback riding lessons and I learned so much about how horses truly have a 6th sense about people.
