Sorry guys,
I didn’t have time to edit Mother’s recording so I guess we’ll have to proceed with caution 😉 !
All I know is that she explains why her husband—our grandfather–looked white.
Enjoy,
Lady G 😘💋

OMG, so cool!! Amazing to me that she could trace her lineage back so far, seems so complex to me! (In my family I can’t get back farther than my great-grandparents.) Kudos to her, btw, for being able to figure out the recorder. Reminds me of my mom, who had lots of trouble with her TV remote!

All I wanna say here girl is you got you some mean talent. Dos’n dat sound bout right? I can picture Mother straightening her glasses while she was trying to turn dem buttons off/on? Just on a more serious note though, we had a time when people with that proximity to being white passed themselves off as “play white” this ensured more privileges. I think even now beyond Apartheid, there is a tendency for black people to be a lighter shade.
Yeah you got some folks wrapped around your little finger GIRL!!😉

Thank you so much Sis! That’s exactly what she was probably doing. Poor thing! She did her best! LOL!
And yes, our Grandfather, his mother and her siblings could have passed for white but for whatever reason opted not to.
But there may be more to that story. My cousin probably has something good in mind along those lines 🙂

Mother reminds me so much of my mom when it came to dealing with that newfangled technology equipment. Interesting story about Leroy and Lulu. Good to put a voice to the words.

Fascinating ! I missed some of it as I am not American and found the accent hard to follow, but thanks anyway for giving us this recording.

I imagine that it would be difficult for someone outside of the US, and in many cases outside of this region, to understand a strong Southern accent-not to mention the colloquialisms– so I really appreciate the fact that stopped by to give it a listen 🙂
