Song Challenge- Day One

What’s up Lisa A?

I’m sending a huge thanks, a hug and a kiss to you girl for nominating me for the song challenge.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you already know that I am a huge lover of music so I was MORE than happy to dig right into this challenge.

As always, here are the rules of the road…

  • Post a song a day for five consecutive days.
  • Post what the lyrics mean to you.  (Optional)
  • Post the name of the song and video.
  • Nominate 1 or 2 bloggers each day of the challenge.

About a year ago, I started posting my favorite R&B songs in a series called “My Jams.”  It was a real blast!

And so…

For this challenge I decided that I would focus on a few of my favorite Pop/Rock songs.  As with “My Jams,” the order is completely random.

But, in this case, I must abide by the rules and stick to a five song limit.

That said, I have so many Pop/Rock favorites that it would take a lifetime to list them all.

Alas, I am bound by regulations 🙂

Today’s Pop/ Rock jam is actually a Country jam with some R&B influence. It’s by Charlie Daniels who tips his cowboy hat toward my home state of Georgia.

“The Devil Went Down To Georgia”

But did you hear that joker play that rhythm guitar while Charlie slid that devilish bow across the strings on that black fiddle?

FIRE!!!!

Sounded like LIGHTNING!

Wait, does lightning have a sound?

Oh well…thunder then!

Seriously?

For Lady G, a nine-year-old budding violinist, this was the JOINT!!!!

FYI:  The fiddle has a flat bridge and the violin has a round bridge–that difference creates a sorta distinct difference in sound. Hell… at least that’s what my violin teacher said………..

Now if you ask a sistah, the devil won that duel! LOL!

Okaaaaaay?

Anywhats, I nominate my beautiful, crazy, sexy, cool, blonde blue-eyed Georgia homegirl Lennon Carlyle for this challenge.

Lennon, if you’ve already been nominated please forgive me love.

Ooooh County/Blues/R&B, I’ve just discovered this style, though I remember this one from back in the …err..70s?……Fine sound!!

A loose sort of outfit, three brothers influenced by their father and the albums and live shows tend to be two or three brothers with whoever want to come along.
Just the sort of music to shake out the blues!….yeh!!

And we’re off…to a fantabulous start! Oh how I used to love this song, even when I didn’t know what the heck they were talking about.

The devil’s part on the bridge…pure fire. In fact, last year when I went to Phoenix, I saw a band play this very song…they had a female fiddle player. She was AWESOME.

Can’t wait to see the remaining song choices.

    1. This jam has ALWAYS been a real show stopper! But as I said, The Devil won this duel! Homeboy gave us a fierce rhythm guitar and some hellacious keyboarding! YAAASSSS!
What say you? Who won Twin?

    1. LOL!! Ang’s little daughter tries to rap the lyrics to one of rapper, Biggie Small’s, songs–and that’s about the best that her little baby talk can do.
“Throw your hands in the air if yous a true player!” ROTFLMAO!
Glad you liked it M’Lady 💋

Awesome selection, Lady G! I love the lyrics to this as much I love the music. Just a cool song! Charlie Daniels used to host a “Volunteer Jam” every year in Tennessee. My ex-husband went several times as a young teenager and was able to see Stevie Ray Vaughan there, before he was “discovered” and said it changed his life!

    1. Guuurrrrll!! You KNOW I thought about you for this one too right! I said, “Ang is not going to see this!” But then I looked up in my notifications and saw you there and was like, ” I just be damned!”
My other Georgia baby girl is in the house!
      YAAASSSS!
      Can I nominate you tomorrow?

ABSOLUTELY! I would love that, Girl!
I actually had a minute to sit down and read tonight! Which happens about once a full moon these days…
Ironically, I used this song on a post I wrote a few years back on “another” blog. So when I saw it here on yours, I thought…great minds, my friend! The devil is in the details, you know!
