Love is complicated! Check out this raw and vulnerable piece written by my dear Musical Twin, T. Wayne at ajoyfulprocess
My homegirl, Lennon Carlyle, just nominated me for The Unique Blogger Award!
Baby, if you haven’t already, you need to get some Lennon in your life. That sister’s always up to something good over at Fabulous with Glitches.
I love her “Hump Day Shenanigans Series,” and her musings on “erratic text messages.” LOL!!!
Thank you for nominating me Lennon!
You my gurl!
Oh and did I mention that she’s a tall and gorgeous blond?
Supposedly, they have more fun right?
Why don’t you pop on over to her blog and see if that’s true.
Anywhats, all blog awards have rules and this one provides no exception for that tradition. That said:
The rules for this award are:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you and include a link to their blog. (Done)
- Include one meme and one quote you really like.
- Nominate 8-13 bloggers to receive this award.
- Ask your nominees 3 UNIQUE questions.
- Add a link to the awards creator. (I didn’t catch that part.)
Favorite Meme (At this moment):
Quote I like:
“Go sit your ass down somewhere!”–Mama
No, seriously, everybody ought to take time to chill for a minute–every single day. If you do this, you’ll find that you are much more focused and, shall I say, “unbothered.”
Clearly, Mama was on to something 😉
Answers to Questions:
- Use three words to describe you? Effervescent, Funny, Smart. No shade, I’m just telling you what the peoples have told me. I would have included Gorgeous, Sexy and Seductive but I was told that I could ONLY pick three! ROTFLMAO 🙂
- If there was one job you could do for the rest of your life – what would it be? I’d be a AAA Secret Shopper for 5-Diamond Hotels in Europe! YAAASSSS!
- You’re going to be dumped on a desert island for a year and can take three things with you…Chile who you kidding? Black women don’t be getting lost on no deserted islands!
Blogs I’d like to nominate:
I’m always apprehensive about nominating bloggers because there are a lot of award free blogs out there. That being the case, I’m just selecting a few of my favorites –I hope they don’t mind.
T. Wayne at A Joyful Process Blog
Lisa A. at Life of an El Paso Woman
Paula at Never a dull bling
There are many others that I’d love to nominate but I’m not sure if they accept awards.
And so bloggers…
If you know that I read, like and comment on your blog and you do accept awards, hit me up in comments so that I will know the next time!
Three unique questions for nominated bloggers to answer:
- When you were 8, how would you have answered this question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
- If you could have dinner with ONE celebrity (living or dead) who would that be? Give details!
- Where would you live if money were not an issue?
Looks like my time is up! Best believe I’ll be back.
But until then:
Lady G is downright ecstatic because Queen Bee over at I Sing The Body Electric hit me with a happy tag! If you are not familiar with Ms. Queen Bee, you might want to step over to her blog. I think you’ll enjoy this little badass jewel from the UK.
Thanks for the tag my Queenie Bee!
In order to fulfill my ‘Happy tag’ requirements, I am going to list five things that make me happy. After that, I will share five songs and bloggers that make me happy. Don’t worry bloggers, you don’t have to do anything 😉
Five things that make me happy:
Sitcoms from the 1960’s and 70’s:
When I was a little tyke, I absolutely loved ‘Geraldine Jones’ from ‘The Flip Wilson Show.’ It’s pretty safe to say that my spicy side comes, in part, from watching Ms. Geraldine. Now, if you are unfamiliar with the show, the character, ‘Geraldine,’ is really Flip Wilson dressed in drag. Who knew?
Anyway, Geraldine was flirty, feisty and she pulled no punches. From time to time, she would refer to her boyfriend, ‘Killer.’
Although ‘Killer’ was never seen, he maintained a very ‘real’ presence on the show. In fact, there was a scene where a character asked, “Who is Killer?” To which Geraldine responded, “The question is not ‘Who is Killer?’ The question is ‘Where is Killer?’
And with that, Geraldine shut it down! Clearly, Killer didn’t play!
Watch Ms. Jones in action (the video is old and of poor quality but you WILL get the ‘picture.’)
Ouch!!!! You, sir, have been checked!
Some of my other favorite sitcoms include Sanford and Son, Bewitched and The Odd Couple, I also like The New Odd Couple-with Ron Glass and Demond Wilson-albeit from the ’80’s.
I could go on naming more sitcoms but we ain’t got that kind of time 😉
Other things that make me happy include:
You can read more about that here
Quite a few of the pictures on this blog were taken with my iPhone. It should come as no surprise that I am rarely pictured in family photos because I am always the photographer.
Instruments of time, space, weather, travel
I recently admitted to another blogger, M.J. Moye, that I am a bonafide geek. I also told him that one day I would come out of the closet as such.
That said, YAASSSS!!! Today is the day! Here I am, I am out! Lady G is a geek! I am that kid that made an aneroid barometer for an elementary school project. Oh stop! It was easy, all I needed was a glass bottle, a balloon and….hell you can go google the rest!
By the way, at some point, my equally geeky cousin Ron and I are going to Greenwich, England. If you possess any amount of geekiness you will understand why.
Yeah Ron, you have been outted!
I might do a post about all of this– but not today 😉
Food and Cocktails
Give me some good food, some good drink and some good company and your girl is set!
Five songs that make me Happy (They are in no particular order)
Ok, so let me get this straight, as a huge lover of music of all types, these are five songs that make me happy but there are 10 zillion more that make me just as happy as the five listed below–I’m just sayin.
- ‘Beginnings’ by Chicago
- ‘I Wanna be Where You Are’ by Michael Jackson –Smile T. Wayne 🙂
- ‘Hot Fun in the Summertime’ by Sly and the Family Stone
- ‘I Need your Lovin” by Teena Marie
- ‘Spirits in the Material World’ by The Police
Five Bloggers that Make me Happy
There are quite a few bloggers that make me happy but these bloggers are always on my ‘happy’ go to list:
A Joyful Process Blog- T. Wayne: Where I go to get my groove on!
The GeoGee Experience- G.: Where I go to get my fun on!
STBB/The Time Tunnel- Ronbrownx: Where I go to get my nostalgia on!
Chevvy’s Studio- Chevvy: Where I go to get my creative writing on!
Heroically Bad Writer -Woebegone but Hopeful: Where I go to get my UK humor and wit on!
I opted not to do links or ping backs because I don’t want these guys to feel obligated to do anything. If you like me, you’ll love them! Go look ’em up!
Alas! My time is up!
Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
Thanks again Queen Bee!
This past weekend, I was nominated for The Smiley Thumb Award which was created by David from the Chape blog. I received this nomination from T. Wayne of A Joyful Process Blog. If you are a regular reader of “My Jams” then you are already pretty familiar with T. Wayne. I like to call him my twin–short for Wonder Twins. Do you remember them? Anyway, I like to say that we are Wonder Twins because we’ve had some pretty amazing music related ‘coincidences.’
At any rate, most of you already know that I blog about music and various other topics. Well, T. Wayne’s blog has a sharper focus in that he exclusively blogs about music and music related topics. When it comes to music, he is very well versed about many different genres!
T is from Maryland so I’ve been trying to get him to blog a bit more about go-go! Yes I did call you out brah!
Anyway, if you are a fan of ‘The Purple One,’ you really need to check out this T. Wayne classic. I am telling you, my twin ripped it! He articulated all of the things that most of us were thinking but couldn’t find the words to express. You DID that T!
Frankly, due to our love of music, T. Wayne and I have become great blogging friends. Thanks so much my twin for the nomination!
All blogging awards have rules and they are as follows:
- Include the photo of the Smiley Thumb award. (Did that!)
- Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog. (Did that too!)
- Tell us what makes you smile.
- Nominate as many bloggers as you like.
- Include these rules in your post.
Here we go!
What makes me smile:
My friends and family; especially my babies! Oh yeah, and my brother Tack kills me! He is one hilarious dude. He’s the kind of person that makes you go into ‘ugly crying laughter!’ He’s been very busy lately but he promised to make an appearance on the blog in coming months. You guys are gonna love him!
Making musical connections with others. I love it when someone says, “Hey do you remember such and such song?” Oh I live for that! Trust me, I have made some crazy cool connections with fellow bloggers over a good jam!
Young kids! I love the innocence and sweetness of children. Having said that, I like them for a little while then I want somebody to take their little asses on home. No, I’m just teasing; but not really 😉
Cryptic memories! You might recall me telling you that my cousin Ron coined that term to identify memories that are so old that only snippets of them remain. I usually start all of the “My Jams” posts with a cryptic memory.
People who boldly stand in their identity! Right now I am thinking about how my late friend David used to spin, dance and kick to the song “And the beat goes on” by The Whispers! Uh huh, he didn’t give a tinker’s damn what you thought about him! Yass baby you better work it Ms. David!
Being around people of all ethnicities, cultures, nationalities, sexual orientations, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds who are having a freaking good time!
It’s like this, if you wanna be down with me, I can certainly be down with you!
My nominees for this award are chosen below. Now in the words of that great mastermind T. Wayne, they may or may not accept, but here they are anyway:
Thanks again Twin!
When it comes to music knowledge, that brother is the truth! When you get a chance, check him out! Thanks again T. Wayne!
Now comes the fun part:
- Link back to the person who nominated you. (Check!)
- Answer these questions with words AND music.
- Pass the award to 5 bloggers who inspire you with posts about music.
- Tag your post with #MWA, for Music & Words Award so we can all follow you down the line.
- Quote these five steps and the award icon in your post. You can display the icon on your sidebar as well.
A word of caution: The videos below are shared links from Youtube/vevo. I don’t own any of them. That said, I would advise you to “Skip Ad,” or close and ignore irritating pop-ups accordingly. Also remember that most of these songs are quite old so the video quality is pretty low-but I think you’ll get the point.
… let’s move on to the question/answer session:
WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you know that music, to me, is magic. Ever since I can remember, I have used it as a means of transformation in my life. Music, literally takes me from my worst self to my best self almost instantaneously.
Please believe that “I Love Music” by The O’Jays will clarify any misconceptions regarding my feelings about this art-form:
WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MUSIC RELATED MEMORY?
I have several memories related to music, but the first memory that I can recall is of me standing in front of an old reel to reel player listening and swaying to “What’cha see is What’cha get” by the Dramatics. I shared that memory in greater detail in a previous post.
WHAT’S THE FIRST ALBUM YOU’VE PURCHASED YOURSELF?
When I was younger, there was no such thing as an allowance. You either, plead or prayed for a bit of change. Every now and then, my parents would give me a dollar or two. Sadly, that amount of money was not sufficient for album buying. But with that said, I could afford to purchase a 45.
***Side note for the young’uns who are familiar with albums but not 45s: A 45 is a miniature album with one song on the front and one song on the back 🙂
So, the first 45 that I bought was “Affection” by Tamara (pronounced Ta-MAH-ra) and The Seen. I wore the freaking grooves out!
WHAT IS THE LATEST MUSIC YOU’VE PURCHASED? (NO ONLINE STREAMING OR FREE DOWNLOADS, I’M TALKING ABOUT CASH HERE!)
Because I have a fondness for “oldies but goodies,” the last song that I purchased was “Heaven Must Be Like This” by The Ohio Players. I can’t describe this one! It is so beautiful and so masterfully composed! I JUST CAN’T!
WHAT SONG DID YOU LISTEN TO LAST? (NO CHEATING, COME OUT WITH THE DIRTY PLEASURES!)
“Brown-eyed Girl” by The Isley Brothers. I am CONVINCED that they are singing about me 😉
Let me stress, it is not a cover of Van Morrison’s song. Not that that’s a bad thing, it’s just a different thing!
These bloggers have inspired me with their music based posts:
Thanks again, T. Wayne!
