Have you ever had a slow moving car pull out in front of you while you were rushing to get somewhere important?
Well, that’s happened to me many times.
GRRRRRRR!!!!!
Ah…but there was this one time that I had to thank my lucky stars for such an encounter!
Picture it…rural Georgia 19??
Lady G, a young mother and graduate student, was driving like a bat out of hell in order to make it to class on time.
I was running, oh I don’t know, 85-ish in a 55 mph kinda situation.
(My brother Tack says I should have been arrested as that was, indeed, ‘reckless driving.’)
Anyway…
I was making pretty good time when, seemingly out of nowhere, this 130 year old man pulled out of a side road onto MY highway!
Yessir!
He was going my way!
Or maybe I was going his way?
Who knows?
Whatever…
Moving on…
Fortunately, I was able to slow down in enough time to avoid rear-ending him.
Trust me, to say I was miffed would be a supreme understatement!
“C’mon Grannypaw!” I shouted.
MOVE!!!!!
Well, apparently he didn’t hear me because he kept right on running about 25 mph.
At that point, I looked at the clock in the dashboard and thought, “I ain’t never gonna make it on time!”
Meanwhile, Grannypaw slowed down to a nice and consistent speed of 23 mph!
Oh, and there was no safe way to pass him!
I was stuck!
Me and Grannypaw!
Well, as my road buddy and I approached the bottom of a hill, I noticed, at the top of the hill, an oncoming speeding car that had crossed over into our lane in order to pass several others at one time.
Of course, Grannypaw was going nowhere near fast enough to be in danger of a collision.
That said, neither was I.
Now, here’s the killing part.
As soon as Grannypaw and I safely cleared that hill, he turned off and drove away!
At that moment, it occurred to me that if it weren’t for my wise, kind, loving, sweet and dear sherpa, I would’ve probably hit that passing car head on!
Can you imagine the damaging impact of two cars running better than 80 mph?!
Game over!
And so…
Today’s advice: Be thankful for AND ask God to bless people who slow you down…they might be inconvenient angels!
Remember:
Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! (Hebrews 13:2 NLT)
Oh yeah…and slow down!
Any thoughts? I’d love to hear them!
The sharing of your blessing is a blessing…thank you 🙂

Like you, when I was younger, I used to get annoyed by slow drivers, but somehow the idea occurred to me that they may very well be there to save me from some catastrophe to which I may have been headed. I always breathe deeply, bless them and trust they are doing the universe’s bidding!

Reblogged this on Life Sentences and commented:
Do we have guardian angels? Personal angels who go where we go, protect us, guide us … even speak with us? I don’t know for certain, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
There are many Biblical references to angels: “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them” (Psalm 34:7). “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). To name but two.
And there’s experiential evidence too. All of us probably have stories where a complete stranger seemed to appear at just the right time to prevent an accident, help us make the right decision, find something that was lost etc. etc.
I came across this lovely story recently, which I am happy to re-post. It certainly makes you think …

I experienced similar experience. I was pulling out of the McD’s… But hesitated to put my music on… a car went around me and I was 2nd in line at the light. When the light turned green she pulled out… when out of the corner of my eye I saw a big dooly truck with a long trailer come plowing down the road through the red light and smeared the car in front of me…she was pushed across 2 lanes of traffic and into a pole right in front of a gas station. Had the pole not been there she would have hit the gas pumps.. God only knows what would have happened… I was in utter shock and awe as I realized that had I not pulled aside to put my music on… which I never do… That car would have been me! I knew God was watching over me and was quite aware of where I am every second of my day! Thankful I am loved, redeemed and protected by Him who laid down his life for me so I can live walking in his truth and the power of his love! Amen! Praise be to God !

I like this story! Good work Lady G! So much wisdom here. That is an excellent description: an inconvenient angel. Everything happens for a reason. You are hilarious too for calling your boy grandpa and saying it was your highway lol.
For some reason, your lead foot and story reminds me of a recent debacle to come out of my city. A kid my brother knows filmed a video of himself driving on the highway and uploaded it to Facebook live. He was driving at 115 mph, swerving through lanes. He crashed. He survived. A few days later, I got pulled over for doing 85 mph in a 55 zone and had to go to court. Well, at my court date, they called out that young kid’s name … and it made me think … damn, I could have shared a similar fate, if I didn’t get pulled over. As much as I despise the police, I admit they can be inconvenient angels. Here is the video: http://youtu.be/RGal_iQZzjs

it’s always in hindsight that we realize the angels had our backs, as long as we heed them and slow down of course, appreciate the gifts that come about unexpectedly including the people who fall into and out of our lives, all gifts…oft times we don’t know why….later we give a gentle smile when we do figure it all out….sometimes it takes years, sometimes minutes. Peace and blessings Lady G, and a mighty big happy New Year to you too…oh, and yeah, slow down! ❤

So glad you had an encounter with that inconvenient angel. This summer, I had the lovely experience of being pulled over in rural VA for speeding. I was trying to pass a truck and got pinched. I was convicted of a felony. Yep, apparently I was driving recklessly. Long story short, hired an attorney, took a safe driving course and got the felony down to regular speeding. Needless to say, I want to move. I could have used divine intervention.

Thank you Susan! Believe me, I thank that Angel all the time!
As for you, wow…. I never understood why officers give tickets when a person is attempting to pass. Wouldn’t you need to accelerate in order to do that?
Either way, I’m so sorry that happened to you but I am glad that your Angel…cough, cough..attorney helped you get that reduced.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Anytime, Lady G. Yeah, I joke about it but it was kind of scary. I didn’t want a felony on my non existent rap sheet. However I always wanted to say my favorite line from Stripes. “Convicted never convicted.”

Cuz, cuz, cuz! , I’m so thankful that you didn’t get smooshed! One wayward thought found its way into my to the forefront though…You actually thought about a “safe” passing place after zipping through a 55 mph-ish zone at the, decidedly “unsafe” speed of 89+?
Well, better safe late than not safe at all. LOL

I’m up girl! And, honestly, I wouldn’t have sped with him in the car.
I know that’s kinda weird thinking but I was always extra careful with my babies but I would behave in a riskier manner when I was alone. But that was the crazy thinking of a 20-something😳
I wasn’t even thinking that I needed to be safe so I could live to take care of him.
Anyway, I was late for class, which was at a university that was about 50 miles from where I lived at the time.
I learned my lesson🙏🏾

I’m just glad that you are safe and sound to tell the tale, Lady G. I guess our thought processes at 20- something are a lot different to when we are older and wiser. Although through older eyes we can see how dangerous that situation was and could’ve been fatal (yes!!), all you could see was that you were going to be late for Uni. You could not see that you might have been ‘early’ for a fate worse. That’s youthful thinking for you, I guess. You just don’t see danger.
I’m glad that the angels (whoever or whatever form they came in) were with you that day. That was not luck, that was Divine intervention and I really hope that you see it that way. It’s a lesson and a message of hope for us all – and thanks for sharing Lady! :)))

That’s a bit of a conflicting ‘speeding’ advice, Mr T.! ‘You’ve gotta know how to do it’???? ‘Speeding correctly’??? Did you say you drive busses for a living??? And you give advice like that?? hahahahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I know you mean well….
So when you ‘speed correctly’, I’m guessing you do 100mph in a 55mph zone? Is that the correct way? I wondered what I was doing wrong! LOL
LikeLiked by 2 people
You speed when every one else is speeding. Never in turns, the dark or in the rain. If the speed limit is 65 you can do 75 if everyone else is doing 80. Know where there are speed traps and you also have to know where all the potholes and grooves in the asphalt are at. Yes there is a science to it. And no the buses are governed at 72mph so even if the speed limit is 65mph you can max out and be fine.
LikeLiked by 3 people
This sounds like ‘political’ speeding Tareau. I mean speeding is speeding whichever way you look at it. Yes, people speed all the time and they get away with it, but does this mean it is ‘correct’?
That’s like saying it’s ok to beat your wife if everyone else is doing it, and you think you’ll be able to get away with it. The highway code in the UK does not have a clause in it suggesting that it is ok to speed if you think you can get away with it. If you speed and get caught, that’s points on your driving licence. Am I wrong or am I right? And further more, what are you doing rolling up to the party, when I’m just going home ….hahahahahaa

Hello Lady G! No appointment is worth risking your life. Traffic is something you have no control of but what time you leave your house is something you do control. I’m a stickler about time and always arrive at work 20 or 30 minutes earlier to be safe. A tad OCD about being punctual (that’s me).
