Happy Summer From Daddy’s Garden

Garden Title shot-5
My Dad’s Garden in Alabama.  Summer 2017.

Would you just look at those collard greens and ‘maters!

Just look at ’em!

I don’t know about you, but fresh produce is a MUST in my life!

That said, doesn’t this inspire you to want to go plant a garden?

It inspired me!

But there’s a problem…

Lady G ain’t ’bout to go digging ’round in the Lord’s ground…

What with snakes, and worms and any manner of creeping thing that creepeth!

I simply cannot!

But….

I can see myself working with planters and raised garden beds.

And so…

My daughter, Lady J, and I have decided to recruit my Dad to teach us how to grow veggies and herbs using the aforementioned.

So let it be written, so let it be done!

The Ladies have spoken!

LOL!!!!

Oh, by the way, excuse my manners!  It’s been awhile and I haven’t had time to drop by and wish you guys a happy summer!

So…

Happy Summer my loves!

I will certainly keep you posted on the progress of our garden project.

Until then…

Enjoy these pics!

Leave me a comment or just say hello!

Uh Oh…We Got A Problem…

Breakfast comparison
Today’s Breakfast (L) compared to yesterday’s breakfast (R)

Yes folks!  We got a PROBLEM.

You see, the button on my pants has distanced itself from the button-hole!

Methinks the lady doth partake in too much ‘real good food!’

And now…

She looking all pitiful ’cause her clothes is too tight 🙂

What to do?  What to do?

Should we go:

Low calorie?

Low fat?

Low carb?

Many mini meals?

One meal?

Eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner?

Good grief!

This is such a first world problem to have.

But it is a problem nonetheless.

So what do you all do when your pants start struggling?

#Monday Motivation?

***Stay tuned for the ‘Real Good Food’ series. 😂

Lady G’s Christmas Pasta

img_3388

YAAASSSS!  Lady G is feeling a little bit better today so you know I had to hit the kitchen hard!

And so…

I decided to cook one of my holiday favorites.

I call it ‘Christmas Pasta’ because it includes red peppers, green baby spinach and white alfredo sauce!

Of course there’s the bowtie pasta and crab meat!

Think I didn’t when I did?

YAAASSSSS!

Ah…. now I hear you guys saying, “Lady G, what choo know about Italian cuisine?”

Well, all I gotta say is that it might not be authentic but it’s Italian enough for the folks in my house!

Alright!

To all of my friends in Italy, please forgive me! You know I love y’all!

Okay, on a serious note, I’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all of you who wished me well during my battle with this cold!

WordPress is best!

Anyway…

I am including pictures of the ingredients that I used.

See if you can spot the run-a-way piece of crab meat :).

Mama would have been horrified!

“Wipe that counter girl!”

Anywhats, if you choose to recreate this dish, be sure to double check your crab meat for shells.

Otherwise, you might experience a dental problem mid meal.

By the way, if you are intimidated by homemade alfredo sauce you can buy some already made from your local grocer.

Of course, if you choose to purchase a jar, the end result might not be the highest quality.

But that said, I’m sure it will be just fine!

It just won’t be Lady G’s!

YAAASSSS!

Enjoy and have a great week!

Love and light to you!

Sunday Dinner with Lady G: Love The One You’re With!

corn-and-crab-chowder-a-la-lady-g

If I recall correctly, there is an old song that exclaims, “If you can’t be with the one you love, you gotta love the one you’re with!”

Who am I kidding?  I don’t need to recall anything, I know Stephen Still’s jam backward and forward!

YAAASSSS!

Well today, I had to love the store-bought corn with crab chowder I was with.

Trust me, by the time I’d finished putting a little affection and ‘Gwin spin’ on this chowda, every diner at my dinner table was satisfied!

So here’s what I did to make things more interesting.

First, I grabbed a random brand of corn and crab chowder that I purchased a few days ago.

Side note:  In general, the brand doesn’t really matter because I always doctor it up with my own blend of herbs, spices, veggies, fruits, meats and magic✨

Next, I simmered the chowder in a saucepan and seasoned it with a bit of salt.

Since I had some avocado and shrimp on hand, I decided to invite them to the party.

Basically, I sautéed the shrimp with that Hoodoo that I do 🙂

Just kidding!  But not really 😉

Anyway, after fully heating the chowder, I spooned it into a bowl and topped it with the sautéed shrimp.

I then added the avocado that I mentioned before.

Lastly, in order to truly set it off, I added black pepper.

Et voilà!

Or in the words of the great Andy Griffith, “She’s done and done!”

Now, I recently purchased a small bowl of gumbo which I also plan to love with that Gwin spin!

publix-gumbo

As I think about it, I’ll probably add some extra spices, crawfish and andouille sausage-or whatever else I fancy.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the primary point of this post is to encourage you to work with what you have in your pantry in order to make your store-bought soups, stews or chowders better.

Hence my reference to Stephen Still’s masterpiece!

Wait for it…

YAAASSSS!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend my loves!

I think I’d like to hear The Isley Brother’s take on this whole thing 😉

Sunday Dinner with Lady G’s Son 10-16-2016

sun-son-meal-3
Steak tips with mushrooms, spinach, apricot glazed butternut squash and basmati rice

So last Sunday, I shared a shot of my Sunday dinner.

In that post I talked about how much I love to cook and eat.  I also shared that I learned to cook by watching Mama.

Well…

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one watching Mama; it seems that my dear son, Sir R, was taking a couple of notes of his own.

Ever since he was about 10 years old, Sir R, has been very interested in cooking. And, with that being the case, he would watch me, Mama and Daddy whenever we went into the kitchen to prepare a meal.

In addition, he watched episode after episode of “Good Eats” with Alton Brown.

Before I knew anything, this kid was preparing full course meals by age 11.

When I say full course, I mean FULL COURSE!

Did I tell you about the time he cooked the most delectable and succulent standing rib roast you could ever imagine when he was only about 15 years old?

YAAASSSSS!

No frozen pizzas and ramen noodles for this dude 🙂

My baby can throw down in the kitchen–as evidenced by the meal pictured above 😉

To be honest, I’m glad too.

I used to tell him, “You need to learn how to cook whatever you like to eat, I don’t want you marrying somebody just because she can cook your favorite dish!”

LOL!

Forgive me guys, I crack my own self up sometimes 🙂

Anyway, a couple of years after graduating high school and going off to college, Sir R decided to become a certified personal trainer.

He had already established and maintained a healthy lifestyle so I encouraged him to go ahead and make it official.

And so…

As a health nut  health enthusiast, and lover of good food, my baby boy digs creating nutritious versions of most any traditional dish.

To that end, he enjoys experimenting with unconventional ingredients in order to prepare balanced meals that are both cost effective and tasty.

Believe it or not, you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money to eat healthfully!

Anyway…

I really wish you guys were here to partake of this meal with us 😉

Any thoughts?  I’d love to hear them!  Meet me in comments 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your day and I pray that you have a blessed week !

Love Lady G and Sir R!

😘💋

Sunday Dinner with Lady G: 10-9-16

Cube Steak and Cornbread Dressing with Fresh Collard Greens and Tomatoes

YAAASSS!

Lady G threw down today!

Uh huh!

😉

So if you’ve been following me then you already know that I love to cook and eat all sorts of food.

Name a continent and I can guarantee you that I have cooked and eaten a dish from that locale.

I love ’em ALL!

But…

Around here, if it’s Sunday, it’s all about soul food BABY!

You better get into it!

Seriously, I learned to cook by watching Mama.

Mama NEVER used recipes; the ingredients and directions were all in her head.

Everything was by heart.

Or, better yet, soul!

And now, here I am, many years later, cooking the same meals that I remember–straight from Mama’s kitchen.

Come on over y’all!

I got a plate waiting just for YOU!

So tell me, do you love to cook?

If so, who taught you?

What are some of your favorites?

Let’s discuss in comments 🙂

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a great week 🙂

Everybody’s Home: A Sequel!

Whole plate

This is a sequel to yesterday’s post, Mama’s Home Alone.”

So my son is home this weekend.  YAAAAY!!!

Best believe he showed up with a dinner request in hand:

“Mama, I want some smothered chicken, cabbage, squash casserole and some cornbread!”

Yessir, mama had her marching orders!

By the way, the blue crab AND beer AND wine AND sweet tea from yesterday was SWANGIN’!  LOL 😚

A thousand thanks to all of you for your wonderful input.  I learned a whole lot about the do’s and don’ts of preparing, serving and eating blue crab.

(Cough, cough)….In Maryland, beer is a MUST with blue crab; they’ll have none of this wine chicanery.

Y’all had my back! Thanks again!

Anyway, I decided to share a pic of each dish before the people at my house devoured it!

Suffice it to say, my dear son is a happy camper 🙂

Mama might be a little tired from all the cooking but nothing makes her happier than watching family and friends enjoy a good meal!

Wish you were here!

Friends, enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a great week 🙂

Mama’s Home Alone 8-6-16

Crab and beer

So the thing I LOVE about being home alone is the fact that I can cook whatever the hell I want to!

Seriously, I don’t have to listen to stuff like:

“But mama, I’m allergic to that!”

“But mama, we had that last time!”

“Okay, mom what is this?”

“So… do you mind cooking me a steak instead?”

Get my point?

Now you know why mama doesn’t mind eating alone sometimes 😉

So…

Today, I decided to show you what a typical “Mama’s home alone” meal looks like in my world.  As you can see in the photo above, I have steamed myself a fine kettle of blue crab from the great state of Maryland!

Never mind the beer bottle next to the crab as Mr. Adams may or may not be accompanying me.  I’m so sorry,  but I can neither confirm nor deny any information relative to his continued presence.

However,  I will say that a nice glass of Gewürztraminer just called for an invite.

I’m not sure which way I’ll go with that.  What say you?

Beer or a glass of wine?

I’ll wait until I hear back before I make my decision. If I don’t hear back soon I might end up drinking both.

Guys, please don’t let that happen 😉

Anyway,  you all know me, I’m always looking for ways to “edutain” myself. And to that end, I decided to search for a Youtube video on crab eating.

Don’t get it twisted, I already know how to do it, I just wanted to conduct a quick survey of techniques.

10 gozillion results later, I came across this little unpolished gem which shows a brother from Maryland (I think) giving a very thorough and practical demonstration on the ‘proper way’ to eat a crab.

Ladies, listen out for a couple of double entendres!  LOL! You might need a cigarette afterwards 😉

Side note:  After viewing the video, my blogger friend T. Wayne, who also hails from that great state, offered only one critique and that was, “At least use a knife when eating the claw meat dude!”

I love this dude!  Trust me, if you watched this, you now know all you need to know about eating crab!

A brother kept it 💯!

Now what?

By the way, I’m eating my crab now.  Is it beer or wine?

Meet me in comments 🙂

Enjoy your weekend!
