Your New Year’s “To Do” List

An oldie but a goodie about New Year’s “compliance” and superstitions.

horseshoe-1411415_1920Alternate Title:  Your New Year’s What NOT “To Do” List!

Like a lot of folks raised in the South, Mama had some STRONG beliefs about what you could or could NOT do on New Year’s Day.

And baby, we all knew to cooperate- or ELSE!

In fact, one of my dearest friends, Gloria, calls me every New Year’s Eve to make sure that she is, as she laughingly states, “compliant.”

Compliant?

So typical of a Healthcare Exec 🙂

Anyway, without further adieu, Lady G shall now act as your personal New Year’s Compliance Officer for 2016-2017!

Here goes…

What NOT to do on New Years Day:

  1. Wash hair ; you are washing someone out of the family if you do.
  2. Wash clothes; Why? See rule 1. (Just to be safe, she extended that to drying clothes as well).
  3. Have a Christmas tree, including any associated decorations, still on display.
  4. Allow a woman…

I Went Home Today!

Godfather of Soul (a picture of a picture taken at Nacho Mamas in Augusta, GA)

Ok, so I didn’t go home today.

I actually went home yesterday, but somehow “I went home yesterday,” as a title, didn’t quite have the same ring to it.

LOL!

And so…

Yesterday, I went to my hometown of Augusta, GA.

Yep! Home of The Godfather of Soul…James Brown.

Not to mention the Master’s Golf Tournament.

And yours truly, LadyG.

Anyway, the purpose of my visit was to see one of my best friends and sister, Gloria and her son Zoser.

Together, Gloria and I are the Ladies G!

LOL!!

At any rate, Gloria and Zoser, who happens to be on his way to bonafide celebrity-dom due to his burgeoning singing career, flew home from Seattle to Augusta for the holidays.

Naturally, I could not allow them to fly back into the Northwestern sunset without us getting together.

So…

Me, Lady J and Rod rolled over to Augusta for the day and had a BALL!

I’m sure if you asked those two they’d tell you how “interesting” it was to hear their mom chatter on and on about her old Homecoming Queen highschool glory days:

“Mama was the Homecoming queen and a Varsity Cheerleader for 4 years…and….”

“We know, Mom…you were blah, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada…”

They had heard it all before!

—No less than 10 zillion times.

Sorry friends, I have truly digressed!

Never mind that, please enjoy the following pictures from a hometown visit with some of my favorite people.

Love and Light, Lady G 😘💋💋

Happy Winter Solstice!

The longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

Tonight, I go inward to silently express gratitude and great expectation for wonderful things to come.

And just so you know…I’m so very grateful for each and every one of YOU!

The Best Breakfast!

IMG_2422

When I was a kid, the best breakfast was cooked and served by my Aunt Nell!

International House of Pancakes didn’t have ANYTHING on her!

She cooked those grits to perfection…

Her country ham and biscuits were unsurpassed…

And the fact that she let us kids drink Pepsi with our meal was freaking ingenious!

Clearly, she was a woman ahead of her time!

But, the thing that I remember most of all about breakfast with my Aunt Nell was her unrivaled ability to spin a good yarn!

I’m talking about good ole Southern Mama storytelling!

Baby, “captivating” ain’t the word for it!

From the moment Aunt Nell began to tell a tale, everybody in the room was completely mezmerized!

She’d intonate…

She’d gesticulate…

She’d immediately grab your attention and hold you in complete suspense!

A masterful comedienne, Aunt Nell’s timing was IMPECCABLE!

By the end of each story, EVERYBODY would be in tears laughing as she calmly sashayed away to tend to her dishes….completely unbothered!

In essence, she ALWAYS dropped the mic…

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!

And, as you might have guessed, I wanted to be just like her!

And so…

A lot of the sass that you “hear” from LadyG can be directly linked to my Aunt Nell.

And, as I sit here, approaching my 50th birthday, I can’t help remembering her and everyone else who poured so much into my life; especially her husband, my Uncle Leroy!

I’ve mentioned him a few times before.

At any rate, one thing’s for sure, I’ll always think fondly of Aunt Nell, and will, no doubt, burst into ugly laughter whenever I do!

In this way, she’s just as much alive today as she was in that Alabama kitchen from 1975.

Trust me, she’s here–between every line.

RIP Aunt Nell.

Love and light LadyG

Big 5-0 in January 2019

Lady G

Yes! I will be celebrating my 50th voyage around the sun in 2019.

Notice the euphemism for turning 50 years old!

LOL!

No, seriously, I’m good with it…despite coming to the realization that I have already, very likely,  lived more than half my lifetime.

In other words, I have more years behind me than ahead of me.

Ah…but then there’s the case of my Grandmother, Annie Maude, who lived to be 100 years old…maybe I inherited her longevity!

You remember my Grandmother don’t you?

If not, you can meet her here where she shares fashion, beauty and make up tips.

I digress!

Anyway, one of my best friends, Sandra, and I have decided that we are going to celebrate being 50 for the ENTIRE year!  Our goal is to do many of the things that we’ve always wanted to do.

You know, all the things that we had no “time” to do…

All the things we had no courage to do…

All the things we had no money to do…

All the freakin’ THINGS!

Please believe that I will share all of those adventures here on seekthebestblog.

Frankly, I’m strangely encouraged, and at this point, I feel that the sky is the limit!

Chile, I’ve been thinking about taking LadyG to a burlesque stage near you LOL!

Would you come see me if I did?

Can you imagine sassy Lady G on stage in her skivvies talking cold hard trash?

Why not?

Check it out, I’ve cleaned up my diet and adopted a fitness routine that works for me, and to that end, I’ve dropped some pounds.

Back to burlesque…

I’m not afraid to take every square inch of this fine brown frame on stage and have a ball!

Hey! I’m turning 50 and next year I’m going to travel and really live this last portion of my life!

Why the hell NOT? With a spirit guide like George Harrison I can do ANYTHING! LOL!
