Crisis, Opportunity, and Innovation

Clearly, I ain’t got nothing but time.

That said, I’d much rather spend said time in a way that is inspiring and hopeful.

Frankly, I am getting heart-sick listening to grim statistics being flashed on top of needless political posturing.

I grieve for the sick and the dying.  Not to mention the ones who have made a painful and isolated transition.

I worry for my friends and family who are on the front lines of caring for the ill.

A change in perspective?

Yes!

It’s a MUST!

And so…

I’ve decided that I am NOW going to focus my attention on “the helpers.”

My apologies to Mr. Rogers for taking so long to do so.

To that end, I have been watching videos and reading articles about folks who are using their knowledge, skills and abilities to solve the problem of medical supply scarcity.

Baby, these folks are on the grind!  They are using their “know how” and ingenuity to design and create face masks, N95 respirators and even ventilators!

YES baby, they are from ALL OVER THE WORLD!

(Special shout out to Georgia Tech engineers as I am Georgia born and bred!)

Hats off to ALL the folks who are doing the damn thang and to the folks who produced this piece.

Every now and then Lady G likes to poke around on YouTube.

Don’t judge!

You’re at work and you’ve probably just finished looking at it yourself 😉

HA!

Anyway, several years ago I ran across this video that supposedly illustrates a 1960’s vision for future technologies.

While I can’t confirm the authenticity, I can tell you that this little gem tickles the hell out of my inner geek!   🙂

Anyway, it’s only about two minutes long so check it out and let me know what you think in comments.

Remember to check out “My Jams 93” tomorrow at 5pm 🙂

Have a magnificent day!

High Tech Travel via ET3

This morning I happened across an article on Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies (ET3).  According to the article, which I will link below, ET3 is one of the newest entries into the realm of high tech travel.  If you are having trouble visualizing this, think about those ‘vacuum like’ canisters and tubes that you use at a bank drive through.  With ET3, riders can travel in a similar manner through tubes at a rate of more than 350 miles per hour.  The article goes on to say that travel speeds can run exponentially higher with intercontinental travel.  Side note:  You had better believe that I am simplifying the details because I simply cannot begin to study, comprehend and lecture on how it really works.  Nevertheless, China is currently working to bring this technology into our everyday reality.

Frankly speaking, traveling in such a manner both intrigues and nauseates me.  I just cannot see myself being launched through a tube for any amount of time without an IV sedative. My issues aside, if China is right, ET3 is going to be the next big thing in travel.  Are you ready?
