Weirdo

Weirdo

I’ll make this short and sweet.

I am weird.  Downright strange.  Unusual even.

Never been normal and never will be.

I can guarantee you that anybody who knows me will happily agree with every word I just wrote.

Don’t believe me?

Check this out!  I once got a ‘love letter’ from a young man who said, among other things, “Gwin, you are weird but it is a strange kind of weird that makes me like you.”  I promise you, that’s what he said– verbatim!

What the hell?

Best believe, he was no e.e. cummings, but strangely enough, I actually felt complimented by the fact that this little lover boy called me ‘weird.’  To be honest, I embraced it!

I still do!

In fact, I think it’s cool that I am just as comfortable laughing at George Carlin as I am laughing at Richard Pryor.  Or that I am just as happy singing “Moonlight Feels Right” by Starbuck as I am singing “Master Blaster” by Stevie Wonder.

Now I’ll admit that I do have a special passion for soul music; I enjoy exploring this in the “My Jams” series.  But I digress!

Anyway, speaking of “Moonlight Feels Right,” I once attended a fabulous Christmas party at a beautiful home perched on an inlet of The Chesapeake Bay.  Frankly, I like to credit that experience to my penchant for daydreaming while listening to that song.

Perplexed?  Well go back and check the song’s lyrics.  After you do that, meet me in the comment section and let’s chat about it!

Do you want to know something else?  I like the fact that I can switch from one form of English to another.  Now in this case, I am not alone.  Frankly, most folks of a certain age are very adept at doing so.  If you are interested in learning more about this valuable skill set and how it is expressed in the black community, you should probably check out this article. Honestly, I think that all kids, regardless of ethnicity, need to learn how and when to properly do this.  Um hmm– I said it!

Oh yeah, by the way, I am probably the only person below age 96 who knows all of the words to the closing theme of “The Lawrence Welk Show.”  As a matter of fact, I’ve been known to sing that little ditty at a moment’s notice.

Baby even my white brothers and sisters find that shit strange!

No matter!

I am a weirdo and I’m good with it!

  1. Wow ! I didn’t know had no way of knowing that was you.

The way you cropped the image giving the viewer the closed lips, the sculptured nose, firm elegant jawline and long loose unrestrained golden-hued hair locks, and swan diameter neck suggest, beauty resplendency, with a healthy dose of uniqueness, and intolerance to BS, The skin tone straight up promotes radiance and warmth all of which fits the post perfectly.

This pic is perfect for this post.

I am usually in agreement with you, except when we agree to disagree, (i.e. the Great Falsetto Debate. LOL) but, before I agreed that my CLOSEST First Cousin is a WEIRDO, I had to consult with Webster’s which says; a person who is extraordinarily strange or eccentric. So, with that in mind, yes I will agree with your self-assessment. Some of the greatest minds in history were, “eccentric”.

Now with that little hurdle out of the way, I can concentrate on Lawrence Welk! All I could remember, without prompting, was something about “Good Night”. So, I Googled the lyrics and the memories came flooding back. Tonight was my first time seeing the words,”Auf Wiedersehn”. What I heard back in them days was, “I’ll be the same” LOL! but, I would have sworn that you were too young to remember Lawrence. Shoot, I was a little fella then.

Just one question though Cuz; Although I needed a little prompting, I did, in the end, remember the closing song to the Lawrence Welk show; does that qualify me for the Weirdo Club too! How can I be down? (oops, that’s two questions)

    1. LMAO! Not “I’ll be the same!” Hilarious! That’s about as bad as Tack singing “I believe in malcos” instead of “I believe in miracles” from the song “You Sexy Thing.”

You offered some very kind words my dear cousin.

To your point, I do sort of think of us as two weirdo peas in a pod. I think it boils down to my little boyfriends words “It’s a good kind of weird that makes me like you.” Geo Gee said something similar— that being weird is not necessarily a bad thing.

So I would have to say that you are already down with the Weirdo club and that’s a good thing!

  3. “Weird like beauty lies in the eye and heart of the beholder. The approval or denial of the existence of either or rest with the perceptions of the individual. If someone finds you “weird in an accommodating manner – that’s a good thing.

Lawd knows I’ve known a few women that were weird jewels that only I saw their weirdness as their uniqueness.I for one like weird in a woman – it makes her damn interesting.

And if she can shift gears when it comes to English – oh yeah she’s ride or die. Gas up the Lambo ..we riddin’ out.

I enjoyed this post – don’t be put off by the gent calling you weird – weird = unique = you = good thing.

  4. I feel ya girl! Lol. We speak a lot of Spanglish over here! I like weird people! I don’t want to be like everyone else, a cookie cutter type, just another number type of person who wants to be normal and fit in. You know?
